X'ed Out

Anyone reading Charles Burns' latest X'ed Out? So far, I'm pretty captivated. Reminds me a lot of Naked Lunch (Cronenberg's more than Burroughs'), and that's a good thing.

Not yet, but it's on my list. I was pretty much new to Burns when I read Black Hole, but I loved it, so I'm very interested in checking this one out.

Side note, I went to a comic book convention in Copenhagen over the summer, and got to see a panel on the American graphic novel with Burns, Chris Ware, and Daniel Clowes. It was a pretty great conversation, and I even got to meet Ware afterward. Definitely a highlight of my life.

Anyway, can't wait to read this one.

Right on. If you liked Black Hole, I can't imagine not liking X'ed Out. The story is still taking flight (seems like we are in for a mystery), but the art is breathtaking. It's in full color (!) and it really pops.

Is it being released as a monthly series? If so, I'll probably wait until it gets collected, as I'm done with floppies. Unless I'm misunderstanding you.

It's a mini-series (maybe even just three parts if I remember correctly), but they are being released in hardback versions, rather than regular comic issues.

Ah, okay. Interesting. I think I will still wait a bit to see if they are collected in one volume, though, unless I can find them at the local library. Still, very curious about this project overall.

Yes, Burns confirms it'll be three volumes, though in this (spoilery) interview he says there's no overarching title, so possibly no three-in-one collection will occur afterwards.

The story is essentially Burns and Burroughs meet Tintin. And it's as awesome as that sounds.

Speaking of Chris Ware, Acme #20 just came out, and is very possibly the greatest thing Ware's ever done.
