Human Target - Season 2

I expected a thread for this already considering the first season gained a pretty decent audience around these parts . . .

In short, I dug everything about it, except the new theme song. Boy, does that suck. Other than that, it was about everything I wanted in the season premiere. A fair bit more violent than the previous season already, too. And Guerrero by the bucketful. I just hope they don't end up over-using him.

Agree completely about the new title sequence. Before it was complete I had expressed my nerd rage via Facebook.

I need to see the ep again since I was doing other stuff while watching it, but things just felt off to me. Winston was the only character that felt like the same person from season 1 in my opinion.

Anyone else laugh that the new character's name is Pucci?
Poochy, ha. I get it!

Even the pretty lady from ROME couldn't keep me from fixating on the "we have to wedge in some female characters no matter what!" feel of the episode. It's too bad they didn't just keep the tech girl from The OC and Amy Acker from last season; both seemed like better characters and a better fit.

Oh well, it's an amusing little action show, which makes it better than the vast majority of network TV.

I remember thinking in the airplane episode they were going to recruit the flight attendant before she went EXTREME sky diving. And yes, I really liked the tech girl and I remember someone in the Season 1 thread theorizing that Katherine was still alive and would show up soon.

The new thief character is forgettable. But I'm now convinced that Guerrero makes this show watchable, a la Sam in Burn Notice. Without him, this show collapses under its own weight.
Yup. It's an OK show but whenever Guerrero is on it's a great show. The interrogation scene was by far the highlight, especially the girl's "OH SHIT!" expression once she realized that he was the Guerrero.

wow what a lackluster return, imo.

horned-in female characters, little to no resolution of last years cliffhanger (armand asante, where are you?), repeated jokes from first season (guerrero with victim in trunk when called), and virtually nothing new, exciting or worthwhile at all.

Congrats fox, you ruined it.

P.S. Couldnt agree more with Farsight ... they ditched amy acker and autumn reeser for these two? WOW, what morons.... And the actress playing the wealthy benefactor is awful too, she annoyed the hell out of me on torchwood in only a couple episodes, and already has in HT, in last nights show... once again, well done fox.

P.P.S. completely agree on guerrero, but they need to show more of his badass-ness and stop alluding to it, and making him a quip machine... yes hes funny and good at that stuff, but when he gets serious and starts shooting or doing devious, scary shit, thats when i truly hit the edge of my seat.... not when he says a sentence that ends with "dude"... (although him walking thru security with the sniper rifle was priceless)

EDIT: and thank you to the OP for reminding me of the new credits song ... AWFUL ... i know they fired the composer (another genius move fox), but did they have to ditch the awesome orchestration they presumably owned... and for that crappy-even-for-temp music in its place?

Also, genius casting of tamokoah okeafor or whatever his name is ... decent well-respected tv actor for a guest spot, lets get him in for two lines and kill him ten minutes into the show!

I liked Guerrero just shooting dudes with the shotgun, but introducing two new recurring characters takes up too much time.

Missed the premiere opening night, but thanks to Hulu, I didn't miss out:

Review: "Ilsa Pucci"

It wasn't without it's problems. but considering HOW bad it was looking from all the pre-launch gossip, I think they did about as well as you could ask for. Indira is actually a pretty good actress (she was fantastic in Rome, Hu$tle, Luther), but she has this habit of playing characters that I just can't stand. This is about the closest I've come to liking anyone she's ever played . . . and I still didn't like her much. New thief chick is pretty hot, but woulda much preferred tech girl from season 1. It's the glasses.

But the action was just as solid, the chemistry was there, the quips were just as winky, Guerrero said "bro" instead of "dude" a bit to keep things fresh . . . ya know, new season and all. One could argue that if this was an ep from season 1, it would have been the low-point. But even so, it's still bloody entertaining escapism without insulting your intelligence too much.

My friend is gonna be devo'ed that Tahmoh bit the dust so early, though. She loves that man.

Good review David. I think you captured the good and the worrisome. I really like the three guys, and especially Guerrero, but I don't mind some eye candy either. Hopefully boss lady won't be in every episode.

Isn't Autumn Reeser something of a regular on No Ordinary Family? That would explain why they couldn't get her back to reprise her character and had to invent someone new.
I would presume she was let out of HT beforehand, but either way i would guess they had some clause that could have forced her to stay on HT and not take another tv show instead.

And NZ, good point about the girl, she does tend to play unbelievably annoying roles, like in luthor and torchwood... but i still dont like her at all, and the total ditching of the finale's cliffhanger (well basically) made the episode really bad imo.

and i still have nightmares about the new credits music.

Rewatching the first episode on Hulu, and had to stop because the theme music was so bad.

The cynic in me figures that so many threads were left dangling from season 1 was because of the change in producers.

Oh god, I'm afraid to watch it now.

second episode, just as bad if not worse ... when laverne appeared immediately behind the bad guy, i was just done with it.

and earlier in the episode when chance at the cafe didnt go well, cut to parking lot and get in the car? ... Really? What idiots write this?

And what the hell are they doing to guerrero, are they truly trying to neuter everything cool about him? Because they did a damn good job last ep.

Exactly, Brechtsky. The comedy dame from Guerrero naturally being an unbelievable bad-ass. They didn't need to try and force it by having him play curmudgeonly babysitter to a character you can't possibly like beyond her looks. Every single thing about the two new female characters just kills the momentum of the show, kills the chemistry between the leads and actually creates MORE unbelievable situations and moments than when it was just the three guys doing over the top stunts and set pieces . . . somehow!

I feel like I'm watching one of my favourite new experiences of the year just fall apart in front of my eyes, to the point where I'm certain this will be the last season already.

Having said that, loved the carpark chase and jump/shoot stunt - that was definitely sans-wires. Looked fantastic!

Not good.  No Human Target after a week of promos.  i'm guessing it got axed.

Bumped for coverage of the Arizona memorial  I suspect.

edited to add: new episode is airing on at least 1 Canadian station, so expect it to appear in the wilds of the intertubes soon.

That makes sense.

It aired Friday and some good stuff.  I'm really hating the 2 female leads.  Putting one into the group would have been ok, but Pucci and Ames suck.  Chance, Winston, and Guerrero have great chemistry and the new chick of the week in S1 worked.  I can understand wanting to add a female to the mix but they needed an Autumn Reeser type person from S1.

If this show got the axe* last year I'd be pissed.  Now I don't care.

That sums up how I feel exactly.  Fox would find a way to fuck up a wet dream if you gave one to them.

I'm still watching even though I hate myself for it.  It's NOT the same show at all as season 1.  There are moments here and there (i.e. The Return of Baptiste and Kill Bob), but it's as if we're watching an alternate universe version where Chance is far less intelligent (you can't tell me the same Chance that foiled the plot in the Russian Embassy or fought in the underground tournament is the same guy who let Ames rope him into a poor man's Reservoir Dogs) and apparently no longer cares if he's on surveilance footage or leaves fingerprints all over the place, Guerrero has been emasculated as mentioned above thanks to Ames yipping at his heels, and Winston's comedic curmudgeon schtick feels too put on.  Having gone legit with the Pucci Foundation, how is the six-million dollar mythology created at the end of season 1 going to continue? And don't get me started on the noise that is now the music for this show.

Last night's episode was just horrible and for some reason I'm taking it personally.

Aside from the first 10 minutes of this season, I think the writer's of the show are pretending that the season 1 finale doesn't exist.

The most glaring thing about last night's finale (besides EVERYTHING related to Pucci) was that the team was killing CIA agents left and right and the episode had the "everything is back to normal" ending.  If you killed a CIA agent, dirty or not, you would be in a world of shit.
