Thanks for turning me onto this guy, Nick! That's some incredible talent on display.

Fuck me four times indeed...

I love that you're choosing actually interesting people rather than flavors of the day. Which would have easily been this feature's fate in lesser hands. Well done.

I think I first heard of him when he guested on some podcast or other (probably Carolla's) promoting a book and he's an interesting dude alright. I gotta say, I thought he really struggled (although it was some cack dialogue Mamet put in his distinguished chops) in Redbelt but I could watch him doing cards or just listen to him yap for hours.

I don't want to be Mr. Google Search, but there's a couple of great interviews out there that delve into his view on magic and his background as a carnival barker (among other things).

Ricky Jay is a delight. Definitely feels like he's from a bygone era. Has he been in a film that really showcases his slight of hand skills? I'm struggling to think of one.

He was in one of my favorite X-Files. It was the one where Ricky Jay and another magician run a con a local crime boss.

His monologue in the intro to Magnolia = the best monologue? Maybe.

I first noticed him as Kurt in Boogie Nights when I first saw the movie in 1998. It was a long time until I found out that he's also a master magician as well. He's damn awesome, that's for sure.

Ricky Jay is great. I'd seriously love a chance to see him perform live.

I think I first saw Ricky Jay on a TV talk show in the late 80's or early 90's. Definitely an amazing performer. I've seen him do the card throws at the watermelons more than once, and the two cards in the same slit joke happens every time.

That's really impressive.
