The New Site We're Launching

Is going to need contributors. In a different way. Andrea is putting the finishing touches on our style guide, editorial kit, etc.

We'll need some help.

If you want to participate, pop a note to nicknunziata@gmail.com and I will store it. Just make sure NEWSITE is your subject line.

Also, tell me the one or two things in the world you are really knowledgeable about that you'd LOVE to write about. We may be your huckleberry.

Agreed.

Here are a few things I know a lot about:
the early nineties Dallas Cowboys
The filmography of Ms. Julia Roberts
Pearl Jam concerts
My So-Called Life
and that's pretty much it. Let me know if my knowledge will in any way help the new site. I expect to not hear from you.
I would read a series on My So-Called Life and how it affected the Dallas Cowboy season in 1994. I would read the shit out of that.

I'm really interested in your non-film interests.

The Cowboys won in Pittsburgh week one that year, but I doubt any of the characters were there, except maybe Graham's brother Neil, so there was probably no...

You were joking, weren't you.

Non-movie interests:

Music (although Jeb is doing a great job with that now), writing, theater, plays, poker and drinking.
I know a astronomical amount of info regarding videogames and action movies (foriegn or domestic). And James Woods. I'd apply but I've talked some (lighthearted) shit about Devin since he left.

I hope Rath was kidding.

Well, I probably would have taken it to e-mail, but asking if a writer for the site will be compensated at all for their work is a pretty fair question.
I know that. I meant outright asking the question. Jesus.

If you're interested in post-WWII Nazi conspiracies, I'm your man.

Am I the only one who thought Nick was looking for blogger/up and coming writers to begin submitting and maybe one day get a paying gig or did I completely miss where Nick put out an actual call for paid staff on the message board in a half-assed veiled way?
I nominate Phil as a columnist. Every week or so he'd amble in and share some amiably laconic observation about life. With the Devane avatar, of course.

The site is arranged much differently than CHUD and it'll have more possibilities than CHUD does, but this call was a chance to see if some folks fit and would stick and get a chance to write about stuff that truly interests them that they truly are knowledgable about.

If people shine (as was the case with CHUD and folks in the past who came on board), then it could be rewarding financially too.

But we're behind schedule and the budget's tight so right now we have to prove our value first.
That's what I thought you meant, and I'd still kill for a chance to do it.
Honestly, the thought of financial compensation never entered my mind. If memory serves, Nick has only officially employed one person. Everyone else has offered their talents freely. Not sure why anyone would suddenly start thinking money now. And I have no problem with volunteering for this. I see it more as another opportunity to get my name out there in the hopes that it could lead to more writing opportunities.

Plus, the opportunity to be a part of something that has the potential for greatness is kinda cool.

Damn it, that sounds intriguing. I am gonna have to think about more stuff I know a lot about.

There are a lot more than one people on payroll and my goal is to add more. I'm hoping the redesign allows for our traffic and revenue to get us there.

My sincere apologies if I offended, Nick. I didn't realize there were more folk on the payroll, and I didn't mean to downplay them in any way. My intention was just to say that as far as I'm concerned, money isn't important here. I just love the idea of being a part of the machine that I love to visit daily, hourly, minutely.

Appreciated. Contrary to inherited opinion, massive efforts are made each and every month to make enough dough to pay as many people as possible and for the past three years when the site didn't pull it off, I worked extra gigs to make ends meet. True fact.
Well, for what it's worth, and no matter how corny it sounds, I never had anything but faith in CHUD and what you do here, Nick. That'one of the reasons why I get excited so easily at any opportunity to be a part of it.

In my case, living in Bolivia means I am privy to weird cultural stuff. Although Film and Music are my areas of "expertise," some of my most fun blogs have been the ones where I just go off on the idiosyncrasies of living here.

Like having to take a 16 hour bus ride in order to see Watchmen on opening weekend.
the one thing I could really write about is electronic music and djing/promoting, but from the thread sizes on topics like that, I don't think its quite what the average chewer is looking to read about

that said, I look forward to reading stuff from people in this thread. some great minds here that's for sure

I'll shoot you an email when/if my daughter naps today and I have time for more than three sentences. Until then, consider this a placeholder. I'm interested.

Nick - when you say New Site, do you mean the new CHUD.COM or is there a second site coming onboard, like Nations Punched. Or are you saying that CHUD.COM is shifting its focus?

And Dave Jarvie, did you subscribe to the PK newsletter espousing the non-use of the period key?

Not intentionally that's for sure. Usually I'll lax off when I finish my night shift and am about to head to bed.

CHUD's relaunching but this is a new site.

Not like Nation's Punched, which was a spinoff of CHUD.

This new site is BIG. Polished. With serious potential to reach a wide audience.

I really don't get the problem here. It's not like Nick can't handle answering a question, y'all, he's a grown-ass man.
Wide audience? Sounds really interesting. I'm interested, but I'll have to scavenge through my brain for stuff that I know a lot about that isn't film related. Film knowledge has always been my forte.

Yeah, that's usually when I lax off too. It helps me sleep better. This coincidentally could be my area of expertise.

Besides movies, all I really know about is being sick and living in hospitals and being an emotionally and experientially stunted 20 year old. I don't know if anyone wants to read about that. I'll see if I can think of anything else though because I'd love to be in on the ground floor of this.
