I remember this list. This was a great list. Alot of worthy entries both for praise and scorn, and even though I didn't always agree with where each movie ultimately wound up, it made for compelling reading. I look forward to revisiting it in the coming days!

BTW: I actually like some of Ford's BLADERUNNER narration. I know he was trying to do it badly on purpose and all that, but what can I say, some lines really work and fit with the noir aspects of the detective story, and his voice is still awesome even when he's trying to prevent that from happening

I agree that the SHINING heli-shot outtake ending is awful, and his whole "sure, we didn't know how long we had, but then again who does?" thing is cringe worthy, but I can't bring myself to hate all of the VO in the BR TC

PS: If you were remaking this list for MMX, I'd suggesting adding THE ROAD to the roster of films with outstanding VO work. Viggo's weary broken voice manages to sum up everything about his character's life in the past ten years with a few brief lines delivered in the films first 10 minutes

EDIT: And, for what it's worth, Hopkins does some of the best work of the past 15 years of his career with his narration that runs the length of the film in ALEXANDER, where he portrayed Ptolemy I at age 65 dictating the life of Alexander to his slave Cadmus for the Library at Alexandria
Quote:
India... the land where the sun was born.
Fabled to be even richer than Persia,
Had never been explorered or conquered.
From the beginning Alexander struggled to unify a land without a center
Kings who conspired against one another,
A labrynth of tribes urged on by zealots and philosophers,
To die by the thousands for their strange gods.
Crateros and the advance party fought against men with hairy skins,
who were tiny, and lived in the tops of trees.
Until Hephistian convinced us these were animals who immitated man
but wore their own skin

They called this tribe monkey
