How am I trying to control things Spike?

Everyone has been making suggestions. Those are mine.
Erix and Spike:

It's not my business, but...

Is there any way that the air can be cleared between the two of you? We're talking about sitting down, enjoying a movie, and participating in a group commentary. The more, the merrier. This should be a fun activity, not one full of tension. Whatever is going on between the two of you, can it be put aside for this so that the both of you can participate?

Can one of you extend an olive branch to the other?

I think I've made it clear that I have no problem with Spike participating.

That first post was a good natured, self-deprecating jab because I know he doesn't like me very much.

We haven't set anything in stone, have we?

Plus, everybody likes Die Hard. It's like ice cream, people.

But I'm down for anything. We have a legendary producer to pay tribute to and Christmas on the horizon. So Flash Gordon and Die Hard are perfect.
Is he really? Sounds like he's just trying to organise it. We're all thousands of miles from each other, so someone has to get things moving or it will never get organised.

A quick question:

How did everyone like the 9am EST time (2pm GMT) for the 'Transformers' watch-along? Was that too early for you guys on the West Coast (6am) or was that OK?
I overslept and ended up coming in halfway through, but I still wouldn't say it was too early for me. I was just a little tired that day.

I did not like it. Just being honest. I actually wanted to participate last time, and was going to get NETFLIX to send me TRANSFORMERS, but I work on Saturdays and at 9 AM I would have been showering and getting ready for work

Seeing as how I'd like to try and take part this time, I am wondering if it's possible to move it to a Sunday instead
post #59 of 96
I'm so down for either Die Hard sometime in the month of December. Considering I'll probably be watching both of them anyways in the next month.
Just another vote for FLASH GORDON. A watch along would suit that movie just fine. DIE HARD's also a great choice for Christmas, and it would be a great excuse for me to finally pick it up on DVD.

I assume we're aiming at doing these on the actual holidays, yes?

Die Hard and then Flash Gordon would suit me as well, however I don't own Planes Trains and Automobies.

Can I make a tiny plea that we start with Flash though?

Which leads me to hope this also gets the watchalong treatment at some stage.

Like the man said, it's not any of my business either, but this would be a display of grace all too seldom seen on these boards. And a great coup to have two such unique voices in the mix. Well said, J.B.

Die Hard is too perfect and ubiquitous to really make a good watch along movie. Every aspect of this movie has been discussed to death. Flash Gordon, on the other hand, is a great idea. It's silly, it's not perfect, and a lot of people aren't as familiar with it.

Which reminds me, The Last Starfighter.

I love that film. I'm up for this yesterday.

Sword and the Sorcerer should be in the mix somewhere for sure but "Flash" is a good one to start out with.

Patrick is absolutely correct on 'Die Hard'.

I vote for 'Flash Gordon' in December.

I've never seen Flash Gordon. Should I watch it at least once before the watch-along?

Your call, but it would be fun to have at least ONE virgin in the talkback. Man are you in for a treat
post #70 of 96
Then I'll go in as fresh and firm as a Georgia peach.
If anything, get a copy of the Queen soundtrack and listen to it once. That should get you in the correct frame of mind for what the film is gonna throw at you.

LEGEND!

If all else fails, at least we can both get our geek-out on!

I have absolutely zero problem with the idea of Flash Gordon being next, by the way.
6:00 A.M. is wee too early for this West Coaster. I might be able to swing 7:30-8:00 AM depending on which day it lands on.
As clarification, the reason that we did that timeframe for 'Transformers: the Movie' was to accomodate the most time timezones.

Anyone in the West Coast was at 6am.
Anyone on the East Coast was at 9am.
Anyone in the UK was at 2pm.
Anyone in Australia was at Midnight.

IF nobody from Australia partakes of this watch-along, then we should consider adjusting the time out a ways.

Other ones that could be awesome:
'Commando'
'Gymkata'
'Navy Seals'
Moving things out of the 80's a bit: Torque!
I'll tag along, and I have also never watched Flash Gordon. Would it be okay if I was drunk, though, 'cause I think I may get drunk for this.

9:00 am is fine.
I'm out for the Die Hard-a-thon, I'll be in a hut on the beach in the Philippines this xmas.

I'm back on January 20 tho so I'm up for Flash (aaahhhhhhhhhhh) fest after that.

Will you be earning 20%?

Would a Sunday be easier for everyone? It's seems a few people work on a Saturday.
Unfortunately, Saturday would work best for me. I have too many errands and things to do on Sundays.
I can do 9am eastern, but an hour a head would be even easier

oh and another Flash Gordon virgin here too. i've seen bits and pieces over the years, but never the whole shebang. can't wait
post #83 of 96
Got my Blu Ray of Flash Gordon. So I'm ready to do this whenever you are.

This weekend is a bust for me, but I propose a Flash Gordon fest as soon as posible!

I actually haven't seen Navy SEALS all the way through and would love to watch from a gut reaction perspective.

Gymkata and ESPECIALLY Commando would be a blast. The latter would also give me another excuse to post pictures of me dressed as Bennett for Halloween last year.

Torque would be fantastic, too.

More future suggestions:

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (it's a ton of fun and plenty of comedic moments; V would also work for anyone willing to put themselves through such a wringer)

Prophecy
The Manitou
Tango & Cash
Cobra
Rambo: First Blood Part II
Problem Child
Stay Tuned

Also either of the first two RoboCop movies. Hell, the third one might be funny to do a watchalong with.
I have a nomination for a future watch in the new year - it's fun to make fun of a cult film, but there's something special about all basking in a films comedic greatness...

'Blazing Saddles'. And yeah, that one could be a good one.
A Chud Watch Along of "Mac and Me" would be epic.
BTW, I am fully on board with FLASH GORDON as the next CHUD WATCH ALONG, but I had a great (,IMHO,) idea last night and wanted to share. I thought over Ken's stated criteria for a CWA and something occurred to me:

WATERWORLD would be a great CHUD WATCH ALONG film at some point. It has humor, action and grand spectacle. It's a film that is better than most people remember it, and it deserves to be celebrated for the audacity of the world building and stunt work on display
post #91 of 96
Came across this on another site but since I knew this was going on here I thought some of you might enjoy:

http://www.youtube.com/user/flashgordonmovies

Don't click if you haven't seen the movie.
not clicking.

just want to say that I really want Masters of the Universe on the potentials list. I think it was mentioned before but I feel it needs more support. Its way to awesomely bad to ignore.
Any decision made re: FLASH and a date?

I wasn't able to get a copy of Flash Gordon in time, I'll definitely participate in next Saturday's watchalong though. Sorry guys.
