If you adapt Berke Breathed and take out Breathed's style, you no longer have Berke Breathed.

It's official: Disney has managed to out creep Dreamworks in the creepy CG human department. This looks about on the same level as Aliens in the Attic. What the hell, Disney?

Over in the Cowboys and Aliens thread, I mentioned that when I saw Potter in IMAX on Sunday, I had hoped for the C & A trailer, and indicated that what I got instead was some indescribable bilge.

I was mostly referring to this one.

If it weren't for the uncanny valley factor, I'd say kids will love it. But I don't know how creeped out they'll be with the visuals.

Based on this trailer, I have no desire to see this movie. If Pixar had adapted the same story, everyone would love it. Because they'd do it in a charming, entertaining way. And hell, maybe I'd love this movie and I just happened to see all the parts that don't do anything for me.

The only nice thing I can say about this trailer is that I like some of the "Darrow-ish" set design.

It's been awhile since I've seen every trailer joke fall miserably flat like that.

Why did Disney have to go there? This really horrible stuff.

Remember kids they're doing mo cap versions of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Yellow Submarine, and The Nutcracker next!

Stop killing my soul, damn it! God, that was a bad trailer. I feel sorry for everybody in that cast (well, maybe not Dan Fogler).

I've been reading around here and there about the issue of the uncanny valley and someone mentioned that we might not even have to cross the uncanny valley. He was creeped out by the humans in The Polar Express. When he saw it again later, he didn't mind it so much. It seems with the constant exposure to this crap, it's as if these monsters are trying to drag the valley closer instead of crossing it. If you see something often enough, you'll gradually get used to it without even realizing it.

And forget about us. Kids today are being exposed to this 'style' from an early age. I'm not so sure they're being creeped out.
