Why don't we just wait here for a little while... see what happens...

I remain cautiously optimistic.
I'd rather not spend the rest of these 11 months TIED TO THIS F**KING APATHY/ANXIETY!
You've gotta be FUCKING, kidding...
The film's been backed off.... WAY OFF!
I'm really upset it's not opening in December. Could have used THE THING OPENS FIRST GODDAMN WEEK OF WINTER as the headline.
I dunno what the hell's up with this movie, but it's weird and pissed off, whatever it is.
This news is pure nonsense. It doesn't prove a thing.
This is actually good. More time between now and the release means that there's more of a chance of me sustaining a grievous-enough headwound to want to see the movie. Good call on their part.
If this is any good, I'll eat my own arms.

With my torso maw.

Nah, who am I kidding. I'll just remain cautious. And probably catch on DVD unless CHUD raves about it.

Nah, who am I kidding. If this were titled anything else and not a prequel, I'd be all over it.
So how's this muthafucka open in October after thousan- eh, fuck it.
I don't buy any of this voodoo bullshit about opening in October. It should open sooner!
Prediction -- better than NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET REMAKE, worse than PREDATORS.

Oh, and sorry for not playing the Thing quote game, I'm tired.
Nevermind
April is the warmest place to hide. But October is a better release date for this movie. I'm taking it as a good sign they're not dumping it in January/February. October suggests some confidence right?
All I know is I LOVE the script for the canned HBO sequel. It's absolutely everything I could ever want from a Thing sequel, it's spot on perfect.

Oh wait... They went with the prequel?

With out saying anything. Yeah.

I can't support this getting released all the way in next October though. Somebody on these boards ain't what he appears to be. Right now that may be one or two of us. By next year, it could be all of us.
If there WAS anything wrong with it, it's all better now. It wants to come out in June. It hears things out here. Funny things...

Alex,

The Winter Solstice is December 21st, FYI

Anyway,

This is a better date for the film, but I feel an opportunity has been missed by not putting it out in January when there is a greater chance for snow to be on the ground in many film markets in this country

Watch Kate. I says watch her CLOSE. Do yeh hear me?
Wait...they really are just calling it The Thing? Really? What, do they think they're gonna lure fans of the original to the movies thinking they're gonna see the original? Just confusing...and fuck you too! (Was that good?)

For those not aware of the un-produced Frank Darabont THING sequel for SCI-FI channel see here:

I quite like that for the most part. Really interresting take on the chest maw scene and it really seems to up the stakes. Maybe if this movie turns into a huge hit they could get around to developing that script, so silver lining and all.
If anybody is interested in reading the HBO project I have the scripts and I've been given permission to spread the word. For now, it seems, the project is dead. It's a VERY fun read and it actually convinced me that a sequel to the Carpenter film could actually be worth exploring.
Brilliant, I read it ages ago, but have since deleted it. PM Freeman?

EDIT: Wait, is the HBO one different to the SCI-FI one? Or is it the same? Either way, would love a copy.
My mistake. Lets call it the Darabont one. Either way it's the same scripts. Send me a PM with your email.

Yeah I really hope they end up with a title to differentiate it with the Carpenter film. I suggested in another thread going with the original Hawks film title, The Thing From Another World, but that may be too much of a mouthful/a little too campy. But at least it's the same yet different, which I guess kind of sums up this whole project.
I dunno, it just seem very lazy to me. They can go with anything: The Rise of The Thing, The Thing Begins, Norwegian Voodoo Bullshit. Just at least try and establish your own films identity.
The title of the TV sequel is the best title I think, "The Return Of The Thing." That's the best you can do.

Agreed, makes me wonder why they didn't just adapt that script instead of going the prequel route. I mean it's not like the original is considered a mainstream hit, it's a much loved cult classic. I just hope this movie suprises me with an awesome trailer because I have no desire to see this yet.

I seem to remember Universal doing something similar with Serenity back in 05, they moved it from an April opening to a late September one. In my opinion that film rocked although it never really took off with the public.

I see a similar 'thing' happening here....

Suggsted title: First Thing

Oh, it's rather clever if you think about it. The creature can expertly mimick any lifeform exactly, so they just have to call it The Thing as well, don't they? See. see what they did there?

Cute. Meta-remake-humor.
