Renn,

Not that I don't care but I do fall into the "Peter Jackson is purchasing (large amounts of) cameras" camp simply because this kind of tech isn't something I know even the tiniest bit about.

Maybe your article answered my question with this quote

Quote:
"Many competing digital systems require the cameras to be tethered to large cumbersome VTR machines. The Epic gives us back the ability to be totally cable free, even when working in stereo."
but why are we not hearing more news about people purchasing Cameron's 3D cameras? Wasn't part of his investment in that tech supposed to recouped by people creaming their pants over Avatar and subsequently employing the new tech for their films?

Are Cameron's cameras the ones that are being mentioned in the above quote with respect to 3D freedom limitations?

Did I read that right? $58000 per camera? That's crazy cheap. For some comparison for those not in the know, Panavision cameras cost upwards of $150000, if I remember correctly (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

But if that's the price tag, you could get some seriously gorgeous-looking films for much lower budgets.

That's actually slightly depressing news from a photographic standpoint. Its stated resolution is fairly high, but is actually fairly meaningless when it comes to color depth and color reproduction, neither of which the Red Cameras have really performed well in in comparison to their professional hd conterparts.

$58,000 seems a little low for a full package, considering how expensive the RED modules are, but yeah they're great cameras. If you don't already own a Red One, however, you'll be waiting a little bit to get your hands on one of these.

As for colour latitude, I'm not sure what HD counterparts the user below is comparing the Epic to, but they're claiming between 13-18 stops of latitude, which is pretty effing extraordinary.

Yeah, but what are they recording the sound on?
