Your idea would fucking rock, Nick. Shame it is unlikely to happen.

I'd say good riddance, but I agree that Darabont's decision has nothing to do with the writing quality of Season 1. So this doesn't necessarily point towards any kind of quality or creative overhaul on Frankie D's part.

Episode 2.6 "The Maine Attraction" (Writer: Stephen King)

Rick and the gang arrive in Maine where they discover Mrs Marmody, a woman who may be a prophet of God. Meanwhile, zombies from what remains of the local circus cause trouble for the group - and WennyPise, the undead clown, stalks Glenn through the streets. As Rick ponders whether Mrs Marmody may be a danger, as she begins talking about sacrificing members of the group to appease God, Shane begins to notice the distrubing graffiti found everywhere. Just who is 'The Crimson King'?

Could it also be that Darabont wants complete control? Like he wants it all done his way with his words so to hell with everyone else? Perhaps a thought. Dunno if he'd find the time, though.

This was my guess, initially. Having freelancers puts him in a better position to fully control where the story goes. As much as I've really liked the show, I think we've witnessed a number of dropped balls and missed opportunities. Hopefully this approach will rectify that.

I think it's weird that there won't be a proper showrunner, but it would be pretty awesome if they portioned out the episodes to high-profile writers and directors.

I just don't want it to turn into a weekly serial series like World War Z. I want to story of THIS group. Thats what the Walking Dead is all about.

I agree. I want this to remain focused on the group of survivors and not simply become a "zombie story of the week" series. I do want next season to really take us far, far away from the comic book, and it looks like the show's poised to do just that based on how the last couple episodes have gone.

Regardless I'm happy with this, as I think it could benefit the series overall.

TWD is a massively disappointing show and this will only make it worse. The writing is already moronic.

Yeah, I still don't understand the massive hard on some people have for this show. A friend of mine absolutely loves it and thinks it's great. I don't see it. It's cliched as shit, predictable and at times, very poorly acted. The scene of the two sisters talking together on the canoe comes to mind.

But oddly... I still watch it. Ahahaha! I guess I'm holding out hope that it could get better. This news sound interesting so I might hang around for the first little bit of season two just to see what's what.

I was pumped when I saw this. I think the show has potential but the dumb, poor writing has turned the show into The Walking Dumb Southern People. I hope by firing the writing staff, we see a better written more cohesive and driven serialized show with good writing lead by Frank Darabont and not a monster/talent of the week show. I want this show to be better and something worth watching. Firing the shitty writing staff seems like a good place to start.

Ah so it's in the same tradition as the Romero Zombie films!

Except imagine taking the worst parts/aspects of Romero's movies and making them dumber and even more uninteresting. Watching this show really just makes me want to watch Dawn of & Day of The Dead.
