GUILLERMO DEL TODOS: MONDO POSTERS PICKS DEL TORO FOR 1ST EVER "DIRECTOR'S SERIES"

Mondo doesn't quit doing awesome posters, and they're honoring the Mexican master this time.

I honestly need that Hellboy 2 poster. Like, it's essential for my life.

I have a rule about buying posters that dictates I must love the film and love the image, but that Hellboy II poster (which is for a movie I like, rather than love) is seriously testing it. Fortunately there's also Pan's Labyrinth to see, which I'd have no problem grabbing if the poster is anything as pretty.

I like the style of artwork Mondo puts out, despite some odd and sometimes weak composition choices (like that Blade 2 poster). But, $50 is pretty silly for a poster, limited run or no. I really dig that Hellboy 2 poster, but it'd have to be signed by del Toro, framed and numbered before I'd consider dropping $50 on one.

I am considering their "TMNT Attack!" shirt, though. $24 is a reasonable price for a shirt.

These aren't just limited run posters, they're hand screen-printed posters on card stock with visible texture and beautiful layering. I hate to sound like a shill, but these guys aren't just running off glossy prints and arbitrarily inventing scarcity. That quality, along with the collaboration with such cool artists, is what makes these things so special. $50 for a limited custom piece of art isn't ridiculous.

Oh! Well, see, that makes a whole lot more sense. I was picturing paying $50 for a poster that arrives via UPS, rolled up in a cardboard tube.

All too often, you see cool shit like this going for ridiculous prices simply because the companies that make them know we geeks will shell out the cash.

I know! It's like these fuckers are trying to turn a profit or something.

There's turning a profit, and then there's inventing scarcity like Renn said.

Now that I know these posters are practically hand-crafted, and are made using high-quality materials, the $50 price tag is warranted. And there's only so many being sold because it sounds like they're expensive and time-consuming to produce.

These MONDO posters vex me. They are generally pretty well designed, and I like alot of the individual elements and the over all composition, but the art style kind of makes some figures hard to make out, and it ends up looking visually muddled or cluttered. Also, some of the colorization on their posters (like TRICK R TREAT) I did not like at all

The HB2 is OK, but not even a fraction as good as the DVD art by Struzan for HB1

What you described is exactly the way Mondo posters arrive at your house. I just want to make sure you know that in case you decide to order one. If you do, and you should if the poster looks at all appealing to you, you'll find that the poster inside is very well-crafted, cardboard tube or no.
