It's on par with the green packaging bullshit that's been haunting the Futurama/Simpsons releases.

Ah OK, I did not anticipate that you would be referring to a structural flaw in the design of the case itself. I assumed you were talking about the cover art. Anyway, I've never liked
any of the packaging for HD DVD cases. I don't know why the fact it's a blue ray seems to need to be emblazoned across the top of the case. It detracts from the art. Sure, I guess the general populace might be AV ignorant and market confusion would result if you didn't slap a big BLUE RAY logo on it, but still, it seems like it's catering to the worst element of the AV market -- the same people who buy accidently full screen movies and don't know the difference. Stocking DVDs separately from HD DVDs seems like all that should be needed
Additionally, I dislike the tiny cases. The PS3 game discs use them as well, from what I've seen. There is a reason mini disc players never caught on, and people who are interested in investing in physical media usually get some pleasure from displaying their collection on a shelf. The DVD Keep Case is the perfect size for that, and with a DVD you can have cover art without the top half inch reading "DVD!"
BTW, I am totally sold on the value of HD. It is invaluable for videogaming, and the few HD DVDs I do own for my TOSHIBA HD DVD A3 player offer a new way of looking at film. It's very much like a window into another reality, and not just an image of something. The PLANET EARTH series alone is worth the money I sunk into the HD DVD thing. Oh, and the texture on Michael Caine's sweater in CHILDREN OF MEN is stunning. I know that sounds absurd, but I mean it. It's like there is a real person wearing a sweater there before my eyes. HD and 3D go hand in hand that way to my mind, each one works best when it's used to tear down the barrier between the audience and the drama on screen
My only hesitation in getting a BR is the cost. I gambled on the HD DVD player (for good reasons, it remains the best HD Disc player of all time IMHO), and lost. I had my chance at HD this tech generation, better luck next time. My TV is only 1080i anyway and LCD, and so it's not as big a deal
When I get more funds in the future, I will look into improving the way I watch movies ASAP
PS You could just make generic plastic case BLUE RAYS come in blue plastic cases like they already do. XBOX games come in green cases. You'd never confuse an XBOX game with a DVD, and if you just used blue cases you'd not confuse a BLUE RAY with a DVD either IMHO
EDIT I am on your side when it comes to green packaging, Anderson. If they want to go 'Green', they should use recycled wood fiber for a study outer casing like HBO used for the ROME dvds. Something made of light cardboard only cannot stand the test of time
