So, essentially, as many as they can make forever…

I know they're worried about money but all of these franchises had to start somewhere, and they started out as original films. I don't know how they're going to fit any non-sequels into this schedule. Maybe they hired millions of people or something.

If only they were planning an animated sequel to Plan 9 From Outer Space.

I have no problem with more How To Train Your Dragon, but six Kung Fu Panda films is a little much. And I've been done with Madagascar for a while; the first film was an amusing diversion, and the second film had some funny bits, but that's about it.

I like how he touts the way they've meticulously planned out the story arcs, and then guesses, "...there's probably a fourth one there." I don't mind movies-as-commerce, but let's not pretend we're aiming particularly high (that lemur has a funny accent!).

I say this as someone who enjoyed Toy Story 3 but felt it was sort of pointless (and the ending was a cop-out - you know it, I know it). And don't get me started on CARS. I already like the second one better by default.

Glad I wasn't the only one....

This is no different from the way Katzenberg was all too keen on making an endless number of Shrek sequels (I know he originally said more than 4) because we just HAD to know, "Just how DID Shrek end up in that swamp!?" Yeah... we were dying to know that. What a load of horse pucky.

Ah, here it is: He originally wanted 5 movies. Because more than that would be ridiculous!

How about 6 films and a TV show??? Since it's getting that too.

I'm surprisingly OK with a TV show, actually, and the first sequel looks pretty cool.

That's the gigantically load of smelly bullshit that offends me personally the most. If it's a shameless cash-grab and merchandise advertising venture (SIX Kung Fu Pandas?!?!?), just be fucking honest about it and call it what it is. Don't blow smoke up the collectives arse by trying to make out there was always some epic story that needed to be told here, that there was always some great vision for a tale that could only be done justice by fifteen fucking sequels, a shit load of toys and video games and a bunch of lunch boxes.

No one is buying that crap - not even the dribbling four year olds being pitched to.

If they make the Kung Fu Panda movies sort of like a comedic Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman movies then maybe...

Nah. Nevermind.

The Kung Fu Panda sequel has my interest because Charlie Kaufman is one of the writers. Yes, really.

But yeah. Fucking 6 movies? You were doing so well, Dreamworks. Is it really that much trouble to develop an original concept? And it's not like they'd tried a string of original movies that all bombed and they were desperately trying to cling to a past success. They're on a path where they can clearly keep banging out original movies and not be punished at the box office.

Its all about money and frankly speaking these movies keep the studios from going under and bank rolling more interesting/independent movies.

I liked Kung Fu Panda quite a bit honestly but 6 sequels? Burn out is gonna come quick.

As for Pixar I saw Toy Story 3 recently and marvel that they can still bring it after all these years. I thought Cars sucked so I could care less about any more of those.

That all reeks of some good old fashioned carnival bullshit. I can see Panda doing well on TV or DTV, but no way are they seriously budgeting for that many sequels. Only the hits get sequels until they stop making money. And by now I'm sure every original film has had a series planned out ahead of time. I'm sure there are plenty of Bee Movie and Shark Tale spin-off scripts out there that will never be used.

I like Kung Fu Panda, but seriously, SIX MOVIES? Toy Story had way more memorable characters, and I doubt I could stomach three more TS sequels. Let's just see how the first Panda sequel perform before more sequels are greenlighted, okay?
