Happy Birthday Eli Wallach

95 years old today. I know for most of you he's Tucco from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, but for me he'll always be Calvera from The Magnificent Seven:

Love his utter astonishment at the end when he wonders why on earth they came back to help those villagers.

Still going strong too, and still married to the woman he wed 62 years ago. We'll all be lucky to have half the run he's had.

Careful, Dickson. Whoever disses Tuco and leaves him alive... knows nothing of Tuco.

Love this guy. Happy b-day to the best fake Mexican ever.

Wallach will be Osborne's TCM guest programmer on Mon Dec 20th (got a ten spot says Tuco is first to nod off during the interview segments)

PS. I propose we make this his catchall thread, a sort of one-stop shop for all our Wallach needs.

I like that idea, Disciple. I love Wallach, and as my Intro to Film professor used to say, he automatically adds one star to any movie he appears in. I couldn't agree more. I was so pleasantly surprised to see him pop up in The Ghost Writer, as I had no idea he was in that. I was enjoying the movie to begin with, but when he popped up, I couldn't keep the smile off my face. Just a great presence, and a classy, talented guy.

He will probably be remembered as Tuco, but he is also incredible in "Baby Doll". A very good actor.
