Land of the Dead

I gotta say that if the information in that Fangoria article, linked from <a href="http://www.creature-corner.com/news3/oct21landofthedead.php3" target="_blank">http://www.creature-corner.com/news3/oct21landofthedead.php3</a>, is true, then I am so amped up for a 4th installment. The Fangoria article even mentions Carpenter's possible involvement. Check it out!

I gotta say I like the title LAND OF THE DEAD a lot more than DEAD RECKONING. It also fits the social commentary in the script better, I think. But the comments in the CC article that Fox Searchlight doesn't like the new title as well (after hating DEAD RECKONING) is kinda disheartening. I guess they still want to call it NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD RECKONING, then? FYI, Romero actually walked out of a meeting when some suit suggested this. And I have to say "Bravo!" 'cause that's exactly what I'd have done myself.

Of course it is also good to know that George has another company interested in financing it should Fox Searchlight be too damn stupid to do so. I seriously don't get it ... Zombie films are fucking "hip" right now! Or do they refuse to see that RE 1 & 2 and HOTD are zombie flicks? Do they think of them as video game adaptations? I'm afraid so. Fucking stupid studio monkeys! If zombies came for our brains, they'd be save!

With all the mediocre zombie movies out or coming out, it would be nice to see another one done by the guy who pretty much started it.

Carpenter doing the music sounds like a great idea. Lots of moody synth music. Hopefully.

I kind of hope the monster truck idea is dropped, or at least downplayed, but I don't care if Romero does Hang Gliders of the Dead, I'll see it.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Romero went through the same budget/ratings problems on this one that he went through on Day of the Dead? He's already saying that might happen.

If the studios were smart, they'd let him do it his way.

The only thing i worry about, is that when Romero finally gets to make the next Living dead movie, it might be too little, too late. The newest zombie craze might have died out by then, and Romero's zombie movie might get lost in the shuffle, or looked at like a late comer and get ignored. Not by us, of course.

From the look of the current Zombie movies, those buggers are fast and mean.

Romero's are not.

So now we have a new generation of ppl, who are getting turned on to these flicks and then when the next Romero Zombiepalooza comes...I bet they wont like it. Too spoiled on the retardness of Zombies that use wire-fu and bullet time.

Its a shame really. Though I'll try to be an optimist and hope that most of the movie going public aren't dipshits that wouldnt know good horror if they saw it. Which is prolly the case.

What do you think about Romero say that he may have to go to court to use the "Dead" title?

That's a bunch of bull shit. Romero made the name what it is, and now Rubenstein's cock blocking him the whole way. What a dick.

After meeting the man and knowing he's a hell of a guy... it pisses me off even more.

Romero rules!!!!
I wonder if they're stiil using the same script!?!?
I heard that Romero had to re-do it.
The truck thing is kinda... eh!
But w/e... Romero will find a way to make it bad-ass!!
WHY DOESN'T HE HOOK-UP WITH DARIO ARGENTO IF HE NEEDS THE FINANCIAL BACKING!?!?!
They did it before... And the result was this movie about some folks trapped in a mall...and It did pretty good!!! wink

Did any of you guys watch the documentary on the 2nd disc of the Day of the Dead DVD release? Romero simply cannot catch a break when it comes to financing his movies. He's had trouble getting financing for all of his movies except for Creepshow (I think). I kind of feel bad for the guy.

Romero has cult and fan appeal in spades. His movies eventually pull in WAY more than they cost to make....

That is NOT what a studio wants. They want immediate return on investment. This is what kills him. Everyone knows that we will rabidly buy these DVDs. Everyone knows that we will go see his flick in the theatre 3 or 4 times each if it stays on screens long enough. This is no puzzle.

But even after all that dedicated viewing. Even after all the fan boys have scraped together all the cash they can for this, it still won't be a dent in the typical weekend openers budget.

Now maybe the new breed of movies will show this to not be the case. We have TCM, and the Ring, and House of 1000 Corpses, etc... But they all had some form of name recognition, some form of hype, something to pull the audiences in.

In the end a new Romero film is just that, and his name will pull the fan boys, and it will pay for itself in time. But it will not be the weekend draw the studios really want.

Maybe this will change.

One of these days the suits will understand a quick buck has NOTHING on long term profitability.

So many movies this last year or so have been in and out of theaters within a month. It has not been written of as a GOOD thing. Because it isn't.

Hell, the DVD releases of films are bringing in more money than the theatrical, and anime, a genre that is by and large direct to video in North America is making so much money most sellers of DVD have a dedicated SECTION for it now. (With the notable exception of Wal Mart of course. The same people who refuse to have music with naughty lyrics in their stores. Yeah, that makes all their other bits of evil really ok then...)

People can keep spending money on a product they like or that others show them and recommend to them. Which means some nice steady income you can all but put up into a budget for continuous operation expenses.

What is so darned bad about that?

Why have a 100 dollar steak dinner one Friday, when you can have some quite tasty 25 dollar dinners for 8 Fridays?
