Misfits on E4

Ok, how are chewers not talking about this show once since it came on last year? Here's a short description [wiki]:

Quote:
Misfits is a British comedy-drama series about a group of young offenders forced to work in a community service programme, where they attain supernatural powers after a strange electrical storm.
I would have thought that some our British chewers would have at least mentioned the show. Apparently it's even won awards for being pretty good. Watching the show makes a person who's seen Heroes truly realize what a piece of shit that show was and what it could have been.

Any chewers out there loving this show?

Misfits was pretty meh, IMO. It wasn't paticularly funny & the characters were insufferable twats. There were a couple eps that weren't bad (like the one where Nathan falls for the de-aged woman) & the production was aces but overall there just didn't seem to be any point to any of it. Or maybe I just got old.

I've posted it before but Robert Sheehan should've been the new Peter Parker. That kid's got a future.

I'm only two episodes into the show but I kind of adore it. Very much a Skins vibe...if they were in juvie...and had super powers.

But I suspect every show full of British kids who smoke and swear is compared to Skins.

I love this show! I was surprised there wasn't a thread for it too, I was considering starting one myself.

The boyfriend was a little more into it than I was at first but it really grew on me after a few episodes. The characters are quite funny, I enjoy all the banter, and the plotlines with superpowers and people from the future are quite interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. The running gag with them killing off their social workers is GOLD.

Also I love the intro! I feel like the vocals to the song should annoy me but it doesn't. "The price is... WHAAAAT?"

I like how the first season made you think Simon would become a villain, and now he seems like he'll become the world's greatest hero...unless he was lying. That'd be fucked up. Certainly seems more than a bit Sylar-ish. A you'd think as someone who could turn invisible he'd be of more use stopping that GTA guy.

Good trick with Marcus' jump to the future earlier on with the superhero costume. Also Kelly did the nasty with King Kong. Eww.

Holy crap, why did you put that idea in my head!! If Simon turns out to be evil I'm going to fall in love. With the show...
It's probably not the case. He seems too good now for someone who was a creepy murder briefly.
Great show. What an odd mix of drama and comedy. And who would have thought a man who's superpower was manipulating milk products could be so dangerous?
This show is just like Heroes. Only sexier, funnier, better written, better acted and better directed. Of course I'm only three episodes in, so it has plenty of time to screw the pooch.
Once you get past how unlikable most of the characters are, this really is an amazing show. I don't understand why there's barely any discussion of Misfits on this side of the pond. Next to Fringe, it's my favorite hour long series at the moment.

I was eating the most amazing New York style pizza with extra cheese while watching that episode. Seriously put me off dairy for a while.

This show might be one of my favorite currently on television. I usually can't stand repeated viewings of a show's titles but I actually look forward to it with this show.

Oh man, if I didn't already not eat dairy this episode would have put me off it too, bleck! The stringy cheese out the nose was the worst one for me, and the milk guy was a rather creepy little elf too. I have to admit he did have a truly brilliant and twisted villain creation story, as silly as it was.

Nathan, Simon and RapeMe started to grow on me as characters. UglyFace and Rewind not so much. I can't be the only one, because those three are for more prevalent, while the latter are basically background characters.

Just watched the Christmas Special. Damn. Sucks to wait for next season. They figured out a way not to let those same powers get stale.
Fuck, this show is actually really, really good. What a surprise, out of fucking nowhere.
I just got into this show the other week and I am still amazed that e4 of all places found a way to crack the TV superhero puzzle that Heroes, No Ordinary Family and numerous other US TV shows have failed to solve. Smart, funny and really imaginative. Steven Moffat should try to get Howard Overman to write an episode for Doctor Who.

Can't wait to see which characters get a power upgrade; pretty sure Simon will because I don't recall his future-self ever using the invisibility power, and also because Alisha's power never worked on him. Although that future seemed to include the gang being outed as the ASBO Five, which Curtis changed in the Milk Man episode.

I think there's still mileage in Nathan's immortality but it would be smart of them to change up everyone elses powers; they have pretty much done all they can do with the time travel stuff.
Yeah, they've got a bit of a paradox in that timeline that Curtis undid in the finale. If Future Simon was from a timeline where they all died by milk guy's hands, he would have died. Also his sacrifice didn't make much sense as his past self hadn't even fell in love with Alisha yet. It would seem that perhaps Curtis takes the ability to send others back in time, if its not Simon's power to go back in time. Perhaps he takes some sort of super agility. Nathan's power of immortality and seeing dead people is pretty cool, but its probably rather limiting dramatically. I'm betting they all take a different power.
Shit I was going to watch this but now you guys are talking time travel........time travel almost never works right.
People, this is a general thread. It's supposed to make people who haven't watched Misfits excited. Please watch it with the spoilers.
Oh my lordy the last episode. Amazing. Amazing amazing amazing. I don't know what the best part is but I suspect it's the bit with the placenta. Absolutely killed me.

Can't wait for next season.
Apologies for the spoilers, it completely slipped my mind, I got a little over-excited after watching the finale.

Waaaaaaaalt: The time travel is handled pretty damn well, actually, and it's not a major part of the show - it's just an aspect of it. It hasn't derailed the way it did in Heroes, at any rate.

Alright maybe I will try it out. Are they working on the "you can't change anything" course correcting theory?
This show is getting better by the episode. I'm kind of pissed I only have the season finale and the Christmas special to watch.
Series 1 was pretty weak IMO, but I just finished Series 2...

Holy sh*t, I want this show to go on forever. F*ckin' brilliant.
Just finished the first season. I wasn't too impressed at the start, seeing as it just seemed like the British were trying to ride the American superhero wave without adding anything special but I've got to say it's really started growing on me. I just hope the second season has more of an arc because so far it's been a bit too episodic.

Also, Robert Sheehan has it in him to be a star. He's fantastic!
Alright so I have made it through the second episode with that great blonde girl........... All in all not bad so far. Still in the process of aquiring the rest of the eps.
I've heard that the first season isn't too hot. Would it hurt me to start with the second season which people seem to be claiming is miles ahead of the first?
A season's only 6 episodes so I'd check out the first season - the things that happen later won't have quite the same effect if you haven't watched the setup. Anyway, the opinions seem to vary: a few people I know loved it right from the start, I felt it hit its stride at around the fifth episode.
Recently finished S2 and I loved it, but I've got one pretty spoilery issue I was hoping could be cleared up. In the second-last ep, Simon finds out that he's the hooded guy from the future but by the end of the episode, Curtis has undone that entire timeline and they're never outed. So how is it that in the finale Simon still has the memory of finding out that it was him? Seems to be a pretty major plot-hole.
I'm not certain the bad thing that SuperSimon referred to is their outing and the milk guy.

Well, this show is fucked.  It was announced that the next season will not have Nathan as the actor is too fucking Hollywood now and he will be replaced by a new character.

Seriously? Fucking twat.

I'm still looking forward to the new season, regardless of his twatery.

I dug this. Started off a bit shaky but by the time S2 hit, I was invested. Really got better as it went along. That time jumping episode was a lot like Source Code. Or vice versa.

Didn't think it would be possible to replace Nathan, but the new guy, Rudy, is quite amusing so far.  Nathan did get a good swan song in the Vegas short, and hopefully he'll come back for another one of those or a cameo or something.  It's funny how they got such shitty powers off the dealer.  Good to have the show back.

Didn't miss Nathan one bit.

Nice to have this show back. Now to rewatch the episode and train myself again to understand their accents.

WHY AREN'T YOU WATCHING THIS?

Damn this episode was a roller coaster.  Horny, sad, funny, playful, somber, creeped the fuck out. All within moments of each other. It's not some sort of masterpiece but I'm enjoying the shit out of it.

Digging the new series so far.  Rudy's quite the improvement over Nathan, in that I don't want to constantly bash his skull in.  Hell, I think I actually like the guy.  Also, what is with this show and ridiculously adorable female guest stars?

Nazis next week!  Should be fun.

So so good. The last episode was fucking brilliant.

It was. And the next one looks to be even better. It's a shame this show is being ignored the way it is.

Is it really being ignored, though, or just ignored on here?  I don't know, the fact that I'm even aware of this show in the states seems indicative of it being at least moderately successful in the UK, but I'll admit I have no idea how ratings work over there.

This last episode was a lot fun.  I guess Kelly is no longer our Kelly, or will the show just completely gloss over this?

I have only watched the second episode today and am still in the process of catching up to the latest one. Nonetheless, this show is still great and I do wish more Chewers were into it.

Absolutely love this series, one of my all time favourites - and what an episode last week with the 'Fucking' Nazis! - Ha ha, class Kelly line.

I thought I would not like this show at all because of the 'insufferable twats', as another poster put it, but was actually surprised - I like most of the group, especially Nathan(*wipes away a tear*) and Kelly. Like the new one but never been too keen on Curtis.

Series 1 has been my favourite so far - fan of Alex Reid(from The Descent) so that was a big part of why I liked Series 1. Still enjoy the other series.

Zombie cheerleaders!

Yeah, what a great little show.

I have mixed emotions about the finale.  It was nice seeing some of the old characters again, particularly Jessica Brown Findlay (currently burning through Downton Abbey, and crushing pretty hard on her and Michelle Dockery.)  That said, the whole resolution to Simon and Alisha's arc felt rather rushed, likely brought about by the actors deciding to leave the show.  Better tie that thread up in the last ten minutes!

It works on paper, I suppose; A grieving man goes back in time to save the woman he lost, and be with her one last time, knowing full well he'll die in the process.  Having them stuck in an infinite time loop is just somehow unsatisfying, however, especially since we'll likely never see them again.  A fourth season with only Kelly, Curtis, and Rudy is not terribly appealing.

Other random thoughts:

- Simon wearing the orange hoodie was a nice callback to the masked man's first appearance on the show.

- If you were immune to other people's powers, wouldn't that also include the power broker's ability to remove said power?

I was totally high on this show throughout the 1st and 2nd season, although the Christmas special was a bit wonky.  I can buy that Nathan would be dumb enough to sell his power, and that Kelly and Alisha would just want to be rid of theirs regardless of price, but Curtis's is all upside and no amount of money would pry it away from even a very stupid person.  Plus he seemed to go from devastated about Nicky to over her in the space of an edit.  But okay, I understand switching up their powers being a necessity as everyone but Simon's had become a major narrative liability in one way or another.

But man, I don't think my interest in any show has ever plunged as dramatically as with the first episode of S3.  Nathan was the live wire that kept the show humming as it breezed past every conventional superhero story that threatened to suck the characters in.  He's irreplaceable, but if you're going to try you couldn't do any worse than slotting in a guy with all of his unlikeable qualities and none of the charisma.  And what an incredibly lazy way to get them back into community service, which isn't even necessary at this point anyway.

I'll probably watch the rest since its only a handful of episodes, but this is the clearest shark jump by a quality show I can think of.

I'd seen some previews for this as I was watching other stuff on Hulu, and I'd always thought it looked really crappy. Got into it on a recommendation though, and I couldn't be more pleased to be wrong. It's absolutely fantastic. I'm a couple episodes into the 3rd season, and though the show really misses Nathan (who slowly became my favorite character over the course of the 1st two seasons), the new powers have done a good job of mixing things up. Definitely one of the most pleasant surprises in my TV watching, I'd highly recommend it. It's all on Hulu, so there's really no reason to not at least give it a try.
