I can't believe this is a real thing. I really can't.

Can we all agree that this will end with Jackman stepping into the ring one last time in the guise of his [Zoidberg]robut[/Zoidberg], controlling it but also feeling its pain?

Since it's based on a Matheson story, that's exactly where this should end.

If anyone but Shawn Levy were directing this, I'd be quite interested. But as it is, reviews have to be really good for me to give it a chance.

A friend was an extra in Detroit, and she doesn't understand why I'm so negative about Levy.

I gotta admitt, that looks pretty cool. But couldn't they come up with a cooler name than Real Steel?
The worse part is that this was actually used for a "The simpsons" episode.
But im willing to give it a chance, if reviews are good...or i could watch it on cable/video and pretend jackman's playing Magnus: Robotfighter.
I might pretend it's a robot version of Million Dollar Baby myself.

This reminds me of the classic 3D game TELEROBOXER for the VIRTUAL BOY Nintendo sadness machine.

In a perfect world this film would combine the raw intensity of ROBOT JOX with the triumphance/inspirationality of ARENA. <--[FACTs]--> This needs IMAX!

I'm really digging the robot designs on this. One of them clearly looks to be a homage to Tetsujin 28. Certainly doesn't strike me as a Levy movie.

EDIT: I hope the robots need imbibe copious amounts of alcohol to stay sober. But then... alcohol is the opiate of the human bourgeoisie!

We are sure it's THAT Shawn Levy, right? This isn't some Joel Coen/Cohen thing
post #10 of 33
Man, the studios have really got to stop allowing 9 year old boys into their pitch meetings.

Yup. Shitloads better than those metal muddles in Transformers.

I was expecting much worse.
Aside from BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRING ITT, the trailer wasn't that bad.

So is Hugh controlling the robot or just managing it from ringside?

It is. And it's rumored to get an IMAX run next October.

I am glad for this movie only because it will likely pave the way for the Hungry Hungry Hippos and Cooties films I have been dying to see.

Looks like he's managing it.

I hope Jackman is as loony the whole movie as he is in that teaser.

That's hilarious. Does the robot have a character arc? Like its fighting to prove itself to its dad, one of those one armed robot welders, and show that there's more to life than working on the line in a GM factory?

WOW! Now that I have seen the trailer, Real Steel, looks like a...Must See!

The lack of puns belies a lack of genuine enthusiasm on this one, Fleed. You can do better, champ. I've seen you do better.

Like, I don't know... "Now that I have seen the trailer, I'll have to... STEEL money from my mother to see this!"
D.T., Actually I will show you that I...STEEL got it, when it comes to the fun of the pun. Obviously Real Steel, was not on my radar, til I got the...Rocky vibe, from seeing the clip...REEL!

Production values are good, but this concept is just so fucking dumb. Even if the reviews are good, I don't think I can justify paying to see it.

JuddL, Rocky with...Robots? Sounds perfectly...Awesome!
I know Duke, I know. I wish I shared your enthusiasm for all things robot.

This looks like genuine fun though. Sadly, somehow the fun got sucked out of the Transformers movie. I don't know if Bay's impulses or the writers are to be blamed.

Two-headed robot appears to have an unfair advantage in the ring. I already question the rules of japanetron robot boxing.

Not only do the robots look better than the busy messes that are in the Transformers, but I wouldn't doubt if I found that the action will be volumes more coherent as well.

There's a baby foot behind your ear that you should definitely get checked out. (courtesy of Nintendo)

Hugh clearly did this for his kids.
