Elisabeth Rappe, Do I, Like the trailer? On thoughts of...THOR, being Underwhelming...I Say Thee Nay! I, Love the...Awe-Inspiring, and Awesomeness of this...MARVELous take on the Legendary Norse Gods as, Superheroes! This will be Marvel's...Norse By Norsewest! I have been a fan of the Lord of the Living Lightening, since I originally saw...The Marvel Superheroes in the early 70's thanks to, Syndication. I cannot wait til, May, to see a film that should be...The Best Film of 2010!

I'm not huge into Superhero movies, but this looks pretty fun. Like ER said, I like that it's not shying away from the fantasy.

EDIT:

Tried not to laugh. Failed.

Not bad. The armor still looks terrible though.

ETA:
Just watched it a second time. I still like it but this could easily be the Flash Gordon of this era.

And the armor still looks terrible.
That looks so much fun. It's also got Ice Giants, and giant robots, and Tornado robots, and orcs, and Tabadanou Asanos and Stringer Bells and mad Anthony Hopkins. As such I am completely sold.
Looks like a blast. As I suspected it would. Between this and Cap, this is gonna be a fun summer for Marvel.
Not sold yet. It might be the concept itself that I find kind of laughable, so that's on me, but this still looks like a hundred other comic book/superhero movies I've already seen.
Yeah, this hasn't done it for me either.
Looks like fun. Shouldn't he say "Oh no, this is Midgard isn't it?" Perhaps they didn't want to confuse the uninitiated.

Portman looks as lovely as always.

This.

Can't shake the feeling that Portman is way too classy to be in a film like this. Especially after BLACK SWAN.
What is it that Thor says to Loki when he butts into the father-son argument? I get the feeling he didn't talk for DAYS afterwards.
Here I am on the other end of the spectrum, rather more interested in a concept like this than the standard kind of superhero. I'm a sucker for pop culture mythologies that co-opt actual mythologies of old, though.

Minus some appearences here and there, I've never read a Thor thing. I've heard Ellis' run was interesting (but I've also heard it was bad, viva comics fans). Is there anything remotely GN-shaped, somewhat self-contained one could read to get a bit more of the character? I'm thinking it like "Hellblazer : All His Engines :: Thor : ??".
Holy crap, the Mjolnir stuff looks fantastic. There are a few red flags but, overall, it looks like perfectly serviceable escapist summer entertainment. It's a Thor movie directed by Kenneth f'in Branaugh, what more do ya want?
felix, Too classy for...Thor? Surely not. Natalie Portman is...Perfectly cast as...Jane Foster. She is a...MARVELous actress. She was once...Professional, and then, Regal, as, Queen Amidala in the...Star Wars Prequels. If anything,...Black Swan, is a step...down, from Thor.
I am digging it. Nice to see Marvel keeping the tone throughout their movies.
Yeah it looks quite fun. Though I was disappointed there was no rainbow-bridge.
Imagine a Peter Segal directed version. No way you would escape the trailer without hearing an MC Hammer song. This looks like either fun-good or fun-bad.

A Thor movie directed by the guy who did Valhalla Rising?
I really want to see how this movie continuity handles Tony Stark, genius inventor and smartest man candidate with all the self-centeredness and narcissism that implies, meeting Thor, for all purposes actual god.

Yeah, if you wanted your goofy faux-mythological movie to be unduly brutal and depressing maybe.
Pretty much the same as the Comic-Con sizzle reel, just with tighter editing. Still underwhelmed.
This is basically the comicon trailer with a couple of tweaks.
I'm not entirely sold on the sets, but I like the cast and overall it looks pretty fun. It's impossible for me to not like that shot of the Frost Giant getting smacked in the face with Thor's hammer.

Same here. I'd recommend perhaps some Avengers graphic novels, especially the Ultimate franchise. I find Thor and Hercules much more fun when they have 20th century heroes to riff off of.

In terms of structure and plot yes, this will be much like the other modern day superhero movies we've seen. The inclusion of the fantasy element though, makes it unlike any of the others, which take great pains to keep things grounded. The high concept inherent to Thor, which I initially doubted could work in a movie, is what will make this "not your typical superhero movie."

As for the trailer, I think it's a perfectly good trailer for a summer popcorn flick. It really drives home the idea that Thor might be the superhero that most easily slots into the old Hero's Journey thing that works so well.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm not a fan of Thor but this looks all kinds of epic.
I want to like this, but am fearful it's going to be awful instead of awesome. I like that it's not restrained - but I want fun, not campy.

Completely forgot that Portman's in this.
"...and in 2D in select theaters." Do they always put it that way on these 3D movie ads? Sounds frighteningly specific.

Shit. I hope that's not going to become more and more common. Choice is fine, but like a better percentage of the movie going population over 40, I prefer my movies in 2D. The occasional "funhouse experience" film is fine. But don't rob me of the option.

Oh yeah, Valhalla or Asgard or whatever the hell they call the realm in the comics (I've never cared about Thor but the film seems vaguely cool...and vaguely MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE-y), looks like Mongo!
meh...just doesn't do it for me.
I didn't realize Thor was English. I'd much rather have a Thor with an accent like the muppet Swedish Chef.

Exactly.
Looking forward to this one.
From that, this looks like it's got everything I'd expect from a Thor movie.

They always word it like that. It's to confuse audiences into thinking that their only option is 3D in order to maximize profit.
I'm shocked. I was expecting it to look much worse. Seems like a movie I'll actually look forward to seeing.
I like the fact it seems Mjolnir provides/is attached to the whole armor. It looks nice.

Flash worked for what it was. The Norse scenes look really, really bad to me.

And the level of dutch angles will probably rival The Chronicles of Riddick. I like that movie BTW.

Same here. I don't know anything about the comic character, but the trailer got my hopes up.

It also looks a lot better than The Green Lantern, in my opinion.
Briefly seeing Loki's big ass horned helmet made me giddy. I liked the trailer and it gets me a little more excited for the flick. I thought it flowed a bit better than the GL trailer.

It looks very much like Green Lantern, really, which is to say, it looks like an entertaining enough spectacle with a lot if CGI, that I'll probably enjoy seeing but won't get too excited about.

Eta: Between Kutcher and the pot smoking wizard movie, Thor is practically N. Portman's 2010 prestige film.
The way this trailer uses the Natalie Portman footage... it looks like it was from a completely separate movie. I'm sure a later trailer will play up her role in this to draw the ladies in.

I want to see more of the Shakespearean shouting matches from Anthony Hopkins. Those look fun. I'm so-so on everything else for now.

As opposed to BLACK SWAN? Or do you mean 2011?
Damn it, yes, 2011.
Okay, as the resident biggest Thor nerd on the boards (he is hands down my favorite Marvel character), let me just say that I really like what I see here. The sort of goofy tone doesn't feel forced at all (like it does in Green Lantern). Everything in Asgard looks appropriately over the top and bombastic, and everything on Earth feels slightly less so, which provides a nice contrast.

I'm still hoping I can find a theater near me running it in 2D, but other than that, I can't wait.
From what I've seen, there's little to no "goofy" stuff. Pretty much played straight.
nice. really liked this.
Cool, I like it. Looks like they nailed the casting.
