I'm shocked. I was expecting it to look much worse. Seems like a movie I'll actually look forward to seeing.

The only disappointment was that, when Coulson asked, "Would you like to tell me where you received your training? Afghanistan? Chechnya?", the response wasn't, "Valhalla."

Also, someone said on the other page that Portman might be shown later to bring in the ladies: that's what the shirtless Chris Hemsworth is for. I have female friends who are there for that alone.

Coulson's "You made my men look like minimum wage mall cops" reminded me of something I've always been thinking. Being a non superpowered SHIELD agent most suck the pride right out of you. You spend how many years training, fighting in all kinds of wars and being someone all around badass enough to be recruited. And then you end up always being next to fucking gods. People whose abilities make yours look as impressive as a firecracker is next to the Tzar bomb. You'd be all "Fuck my life" each and every day.
And since I don't know much about comics other than the really mainstream ones, did this ever get addressed? |

You make some good points, but I suspect the paycheck an agent of SHIELD gets would burn the ass of anyone in the FBI, CSA, or NSA. You get to travel to different planets, different dimensions, different timelines, sounds like a great job for some one-in-a-lifetime experiences. Also, if you're a dude, you'll eventually get around to banging the Black Widow. Everyone else has.

| This will be Marvel's...Norse By Norsewest! |

I like that they're at least offering variations on the superhero formula next year.
Cap USA - period piece Thor - magic/fantasy GL - sci-fi X-Men 1st class - uh...another period piece? |
|
That's one way to look at it, or you could look at it this way:
CAM-AM: ORIGIN FILM THOR: ORIGIN FILM GL: ORIGIN FILM XMEN 1ST CLASS: ORIGIN FILM/prequel While some of the films listed I am excited for, it does feel a bit like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, when it comes to the super hero genre. This is not how you make it fresh again |

I keep thinking that based on actual Special Forces (actual special forces, the ones that aren't allowed to wear unit insignia) personnel that I've met while in the Army. I cannot stress enough how big a role pride and a sense of self worth play in making them who they are. It's all about being at the top of their profession. Knowing that not only they're far from the top but that there are in fact several orders of magnitude above them, would pretty much break them.
For an example of what I'm talking about see Blonsky in The Incredible Hulk. |

Personally, I can't wait for the day in which superhero movies no longer need to sell the audience on their premise (this guy is Thor! and he is an Asgardian! which means this and that!) and can simply drop a throwaway line to introduce the android guy with a semi-human personality that will help the guy from the lost kingdom of whatever fight the supernatural demon, as an anthropomorphization of [insert concept here] plots in the background.

That was the 80s. Maybe not superhero flicks specifically, but I'm always amazed at some of the WTF high concept stuff that made it to big screens back then. Those risks are taken few and far between this decade.
