Cronos (1993)

I'd really love for the Guillermo Del Toro of 2010 to remake this thing with a budget. That guy would have a much stronger grasp of what kind of tone the whole film should strike, have a much more interesting emotional transformation for the lead, instead of just him waking up feeling like he had his first decent cup of coffee in years, and have a bit more go on for the talented, sweet little girl at its center, though the best scenes in the film are all because of her (namely, handing Jesus the towel when he gets home)

It would also mean Ron Perlman could have better hair.

Don't rail against Felipe Lupi! The man is an Argentinian institution!

Oh, none of the movie's flaws are his fault. He's pretty damned great here.

So... did you like it? I wanna see it just to be a del Toro completist (I watched Mimic, for God's sake, and even enjoyed it), but this gives me pause.

It's worth seeing, I think. There are moments of brilliance in there. And you definitely see shades of the filmmaker he'd become in there, but I don't think it works as a cohesive whole.

It's by far my favorite Guilermo del Toro movie, in addition to being my favorite vampire movie. Utterly beautiful and heartbreaking especially the last shot.

Cool. Incidentally, does Perlman speak Spanish in the film or English?

Neat. I'll get back to here with my thoughts once I see it.

I like Cronos, but I don't love it. I prefer The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth of the del Toro movies that aren't superhero movies.
