Does white text signify you haven't seen the movie and don't have an opinion?

RED is nominated for best musical or comedy?? WTF?

And THE WALKING DEAD is nominated for best drama not not BREAKING BAD. I know they all love Darabont but come on.

Modified.

Alice in Wonderland for Best Anything is a joke.
Surprised at all The Fighter love.

Not surprised at the TV noms sucking giganticpenis.

edit: RED? RED????!
Image is a little NSFW, no?
It's nipple-less and very heightened.
TRUE GRIT's complete absence is, as Nick says, telling and disheartening.

BURLESQUE gets a nod? Must have been a really, really thin year for that category.
True Grit nowhere to be found is a joke. So is fucking RED and Alice being nominated for anything.
RED?
RED!

The best drama category is actually very strong.
The Kids Are Alright was a comedy? Missed that while watching it.

John Hawkes not getting the best supporting actor love baffles me.

Does Breaking Bad count as this year? Because if so, holy shit, having Dexter, The Good Wife and Walking Dead ahead of it is a fucking joke.
Did True Grit get released in time for the Globes' deadline?
What the hell is Rabbit Hole?
Yeah, much as I enjoyed WALKING DEAD, I'm too aware of its flaws to think it deserves a nom, let alone ahead of other strong contenders.

Was it that bad of a year for film, or were the voters drunker than usual?

Well, Cranston got nom'd for Best Actor In A Television Series, but they might have just forgotten to remove his name from the last few years worth of ballots.
The Tourist is there to get Brangelina and Depp to show up. Haven't seen it, but I'm certain it's not even a comedy or musical.

Good on Garfield getting in there. Is the studio still going with a three-pronged campaign for Timberlake, Hammer, and Garfield?

Voters drunker than usual. But this is the Golden Globes, after all.

Add me to the "What in holy fuck is Alice In Wonderland and Red doing in there?" echo chamber.
I'm a fan of Covert Affairs, but Piper P's nomination is out of left field.

If you want to nominate a USA Network star.. give it to the boys of White Collar. Or nominate Psych for best Comedy.
Great to see Jennifer Lawrence at least getting a nomination.

This, absolutely. I'm still holding out hope that the SAGs/Oscars recognize him, because he needs to be nominated.
This thing breaks down in two categories. The first one is the "No shit Sherlock" one where movies like The Social Network are nominated. The second one is the "Starfuckers united" one where you nominate RED in hopes Helen Mirren shows up in a sexy gown so the audience can ogle the hot 65 year old.

But as far as I can tell I pretty much agree with Nick's picks. Except for Sagal for SOA. I'll only support this as a correction to the grave injustice of her not winning everything for last season.

This leads to the question of whether its any good.

Putting aside the whole 'this film/actor should win' arguments, who and what has the most heat going into the awards season?
All I keep hearing is Portman, Firth, Portman, Firth.
I can't believe that of all the award front runners I've only watched The Social Network so far. I hate not having enough info so I can properly hate awards shows.
Yeah, those two seem like locks on all of the major awards. Everything else seems kinda up in the air.
The best motion picture - musical or comedy nominations are all kinds of nonsense. Red, Burlesque, The Tourist, Alice in Wonderland? Delete any one of those and substitute True Grit. I mean, it appears you neither have to be a musical nor a comedy to be nominated in that category anyway.
I stopped reading after seeing Burleseque got nominated for best motion picture. I also stopped my resistance to having an immediate nuclear holocaust.
BURLESQUE's nomination for "best comedy or musical" seems incontravertible proof that the voters are all heavily crystal meth users.

Am I reading this correct as you saying you haven't seen Inception yet?

Having asked that, don't feel too bad. I'm mostly in the same boat. The King's Speech isn't out yet here. I'm taking care of Black Swan and The Fighter on Friday.
Obligatory "The Golden Globes just want to have their asses eaten by celebrities!" remark.

But it's still true.

Somehow I missed Inception being in the list.
Nick saw Easy A! What an Emma Stone completist.
Wait, why is Kelly McDonald grey then? Surely you've seen Boardwalk Empire and it seems either her or Jane Lynch would be fantastic winners in that category.
Well, it's not just True Grit... Justified is overlooked, as well.

They just don't like cowboy hats.
I know it's a strong category this year but I would have liked to have seen Noomi Rapace get a little love. I guess Depp and Jolie could get nominated for reading a phone book at this point.
Praying The Walking Dead wins. Really I just wanna hear a big acceptance speech where every member of the cast is thanked by name, only they forget the actress who plays Jacqui the City Zoning Office lady.
Like someone said above, Tourist hopefully nets you Depp and Jolie. Red hopefully gets Mirren and Willis to show up. So Burlesque is probably "Oh please let Cher show up wearing something scandalous."
Kelly MacDonald doesn't deserve the nom in my mind.

Or she willingly stays at the table and they just shrug, but then Laurie Holden also won't go up, so Jeffrey DeMunn refuses to until she agrees to go. All the while Noah Emmerich just keeps telling them it's for the best if they just set the table on fire.

There were really no surprises in those nominations...and there wont be any surprises in who the awards go to.

Sofia Vergara, Modern Family. She deserves a nod but hard to forget their wanted her for the red carpet glamor.

Fisher mentioned the same issue with True Grit How could they miss it?

Heard it's a fairly standard "learning to recover from tragedy" drama, without any of his usual directorial flourishes. The play it's based on is excellent, but hardly cinematic. All the reactions I've seen so far have been lukewarm.

This is the category that proves the Globes are a joke. The easiest road to getting an award nomination in the film industry is to make a musical (or at least something approximating a musical), because the Globes will give you a Best Picture nom just to validate their retarded titling of the "Musical or Comedy" category. This happens without fail almost every year, regardless of how critically maligned or undeniably mediocre said musical might be. It's basically like they're saying that HAVE to give out at least one musical best picture nom.

That would explain why Nicole Kidman's in it. Couldn't imagine her being a fit in one of his flicks if this was some Shortbus sequel about a woman who's lost her ability to give men an erection.

Actually, wait. Yes I could.
