Thora Birch fired from NYC Dracula stage production due to creepy dad's behavior

Sad. She's 28 now. And this isn't the first time weirdness has happened with her dad during a job.

My friend worked with her on a Lifetime movie, and they had problems with the dad and brother on that one. The dad kept trying to get my friend to date the brother and she took to wearing a wedding band to keep him away, and she is very single. The word "creepy" was used a lot to describe the dad.

Why wouldn't she bar her father from the set? Why did she allow him there at all if hes' a known problem and a risk to her career? I feel badly that this resulted in her firing, but it seems like part of the duty to protect her coworkers from her crazy relatives should fall on her

And right when Scarlett Johansson gets seperated and poor little Steve Buscemi aged a whole year! The Ghost World curse strikes!

Good thing this production of Dracula had Beau Bridges' daughter playing the maid and available to play Birch's role. And Laurence Luckenbill's daughter nearby to play the maid! And Norman Mailer's son playing Renfield!

Listen to them, the children of the elite! What nepotism they make!

Thanks for reviving a two year old thread full of hot pics of Thora. You're still wrong. And don't think side-railing this thread will change that.

But hey... any more creepy stories about Daddy Birch? Pics of him and Mama Birch back in the day? Or Thora dolled up for the Playboy Mansion Halloween parties?

He apparently insists on being on the set during her sex scenes and gets creepily excited during them. I forget which film it was, but one of her costars actually broke down into tears and had to be escorted off the set due to his behavior during such a viewing.

Sorry, I know those are only a series of pictures, but that looks awful.

Just awful.

No apologies needed. I'm a fan of Dracula and classic vampire stuff. And I was considering seeing this show. I changed my mind so fast today, my head spun.

Yep. DARK SHADOWS had more style and atmosphere.

...and I hate to get all nerdy about it, but since when was Lucy the lead in Dracula anyway?

...and where the hell are the Harkers?
Lucy has been the lead female role in many Dracula adaptations, including I think the original stage production. Basically Lucy and Mina's names are just swapped. They're probably doing it that way to honor the original play.

And yeah, looks terrible. Richard Roxburgh made a better Dracula than that dude. He looks like the singer for Trixter.

Holy crap, that guy was DRACULA??? Then what the hell is a scene like this one contextually??!?!?

That Drac is one chill dude.

Here's the cast page -- http://www.draculaonstage.com/cast/

I'm curious about the character of "Butterworth" myself. I don't recall him from any known Dracula mythos.

He's the vampire that only drinks pancake syrup from his victims.

The play they are using is the same one the Lugosi movie was based on. "Butterworth" is also "The Attendant" whom you might remember as the "Cor Blimey Gov'nor" asylum guy.

From the play:

http://books.google.com/books?id=6D_...racula&f=false

It's not all that great a play.

What exactly was the point of this? I would think you'd want to forget that one.
What does this have to do with the thread at hand?

That she's fugly so who cares what's going on in her life. Can we keep the gossip restricted to only the beautiful people?

You don't understand how angry he's getting over that Ke$ha thread.

Thora Birch pictures galore for the interested.
I've heard stories about her father before, but I forgot about them until this. I was always a little bummed that her career took such a dive after Ghost World, but now it's really starting to make sense beyond just bad choices in roles. I'd feel bad for her, but reading some of her statements about this incident leads me to the conclusion that she's probably in denial and just as wacky as her old man.

Edit: Also, I would totally see this play, it looks like some straight up godawful dinner theatre shit and good for a laugh.

What do you expect from a guy who okay-ed his sixteen-year old daughter appearing topless?

I'd love to see footage of Papa Birch trying to pull this shit on Harrison Ford during the filming of Patriot Games or Clear And Present Danger and getting THE FORD FINGER OF DOOM.

Birch: "Hey, I don't like how you played that scene with my daughter"
Ford: "She's MY daughter."
Birch: "Listen, man. I'm just trying to make it easier on y--"
>>>FINGER OF DOOM<<<
Ford: "If you don't take your hands off MY DAUGHTER, I will put such a stranglehold on your porno money that you and your wife will be out in the streets throwing rocks! I will *fucking* destroy you! I will make it my mission in life!"
They should have just killed two birds and cast the dad as Renfield.

In American Beauty? That wasn't her. They used the windowframe to mask a composite shot. That's the story, at any rate.

I'm sure her parents know what would be appropriate and what would not. After all, they met while filming Deep Throat.

According to the director, they were already having trouble because... Jack Birch insisted on hanging out in the girl's dressing room with his daughter. Not Thora's dressing room, the girl's dressing room... with the other girls dressing in there.

The Dracula director said:
Quote:
"It really was like Nightmare on Elm Street. It was bizarre ... I just thought, 'This is getting stranger and stranger'.

Alexander added: "I have a 31-year-old daughter and it would never occur to me to be that involved in my daughter's life. It seemed to be exactly the opposite for them."

I wish I could find a current photo of this guy online, so all the ladies of CHUD could see what magic they're missing out on. I did see one freaky photo attributed as him days ago, but can't find it now.

Here's what he looked like back in his studly 70s porno days (safe for work face photo):

http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfi...Jack-Birch.htm

Someone please dredge up a photo of what this guy looks like today. This thread just isn't complete until everyone has the image in their heads of that face leering into the window of a Dracula set or watching 20-something actresses change out of their clothes.

It's a shame about Thora, as she's definitely talented. But, unless she makes some big public show of firing her father and insisting he will never be where she works, her career is over. Who the hell would hire her now, knowing they'd have to put up with that bullshit?

Well, I'll also say that both of her parents being porno stars in the 70's makes me unsurprised that this sort of thing would happen.

As for what the dad looks like, I found what looks like a recent image of him with his daughter. Sad to say, it's Perez Hilton's site (one I never visit!), but if you can tolerate him, here's the link.

I never thought I'd say this, but... thank you, Perez Hilton:

EDIT TO ADD: Synchronicity!

If the dressing room antics, the father's sensitivity to other men touching her outside of sex scenes, and his prurient interest in her sex scenes are the indicators they appear to be, I have this unfortunate hunch that these people have made truly horrifying home videos.

The Winter Of Frozen Dreams. And Jack Birch is a model of decency and restraint:

Quote:
On set, scenes of that nature are usually closed but her dad forced her way in and as the Post put it, “demanded to be present as his daughter and Winters simulated intercourse last week”.

It was so wrong,” said one insider. “The director is saying, ‘Harder! Faster!’ and the father is giving Winters the thumbs up.”

Sources say her dad, Jack Birch literally kicked the door in, threatening to kill the assistant directors and pull Thora from the moview with 3 days of filming left if he wasn’t let watch. The Post describe Jack Birch as Charles Manson looking in person, in a “full-length leather coat and wraparound sunglasses, even at night”

To make matters even more awkard the scene had to be shot FOURTEEN TIMES. Such was the disturbing and peverse nature of the scene, one girl actually broke down crying on set.
And, of course, What Would Tyler Durden Do (a site I have CHUD gossip forums to thank for the intro) expresses Cuch's hunch in more candid detail:

http://www.wwtdd.com/2010/12/thora-b...-creepy-relat/ (NSFW screencaps of the debated American Beauty scene at the link)

And if you needed any reason to suspect that Thora likes... older men, keep in mind she was dating Bill Maher for a while, who is 26 years older than she is.
Oh, hey. The guy is a pervert Sean Connery. For me, this makes his behavior alright.
If anyone's at fault, it's Thora. She should be fired. She could ask her father to leave at any time. Something strange with that daughter/father relationship at 28!
Jack Birch and Joe Simpson have something in common, and all of you should learn from their folly. If you begin to notice that your daughter has grown into a pair of rockin' tits, seek pre-emptive psychiatric care at once.

Thora fired from Manson Girls ...because of dad again.

This is the only site I found running this story. Manson Girls is the production that also fired Lilo.

Thora, this is getting sad. There have to be some friends in your life telling you to dump your dad as manager. Time to listen to them while you still have a career to salvage.
Shit, they should make a musical about this guy.

Actually, I'm gonna go write a rough draft of the screenplay and register it with the guild, Griff's ahead of the game this time!

Jeeze, that's creepy. She needs to cut him out of her life, STAT

No one should be so involved in their child's life, and no adult person should tolerate that kind of interference

I really, really sympathize with those designers if that story is true, but that quote made me lolwut. Uh, if you're a professional, your skills are highly valuable. You don't work for free! They really should have jumped ship when the producers started treating them like interns.

Birch is out of Dracula, but the crazy kept on coming with that show to the bitter end:
