Older men, younger women. - Page 2

And then a few years later he also had a romance with Leslie Caron in Father Goose, although in that one it was the two of them stuck on an island for the whole film, so eventually something was going to happen. Even still, he was 60, she was 32. That's part of why he retired so completely despite not dying for another twenty years-- he felt that he was too old to be romancing these women, but romancing women is what Cary Grant did.

See, this is what elevates CHUD beyond Empire's talkbacks. Insight. Seriously, thank you for that. Their comment in the magazine made it sound like it was a scriptwriting decision, not a collaborative thing.

And that ladies and gentlemen is called being Cary Grant. You gotta bring a whole bunch of class along with your looks if you ever want to compare.

Also, in Charade, Hepburn is the one who is actively pursuing Grant (not that he dissuades her or anything, but c'mon, who would?), and in Father Goose, he and Caron are at each other's throats the whole film before finally realizing that they're in love.

Actually, since this thread is kind of about older/younger relationships and their dynamics, let me get some thoughts on something: they come to this realization after she slaps him and he, not considering himself deserving of that slap, slaps her right back. Trying to assert her control over the situation one more time, she slaps him again, only to have it returned again. The next scene they're on the radio to the chaplain to perform a wedding. If the film were made today, any chance this scene plays out the way it does? And should it even?

Watched the Big Sleep last night actually. They can shoot a film where Humphrey Bogart's corpse romances Vanessa Hudgens and I'll still find it believable.

I think that scene could play today, except the slapping would then transform to a recycled sex scene instead of a wedding. Which kind of tells you something.

Ha. I came to this thread to mention Grant (50) and Grace Kelly (25) in To Catch A Thief and then saw everyone else chiming in with other Cary Grant examples. He's a master cradle robber.
