No Social Network in the Supporting Male category is a bit of a surprise.

Why doesn't SAG have supporting actor categories for TV?

Am I just way off in terms of the time period for eilgibility, or am I the only one mystified by the omission here (and in the Globes) of "Justified"?

I think Bridges is gonna get it for his Rooster and The Social Network cast did an outstanding job in their film.

Ernest Borgnine getting a lifetime achievement award has made me happier than I've been all day and that's after the hair cuts lady gave me a bag of candy for early Christmas. Somebody please edit The Black Hole, BASEketball and The Poseidon Adventure into his showreel.

If Merlin's Shop of Magical Wonders doesn't make an appearance, all will be for naught.

Mentioned this in my Borg appreciation thread a while back, but there's currently a FIRESTORM of controversy raging over that lifetime achievement award (be sure to read the part about John Wayne for maximum lulz):

Borgie!

TEARDROP! YES!!!

NEWFLASH: Nearly 100-year-old man can't wrap his head around gay people. I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you!

That LA Times article makes it seem like Borgnine single-handedly denied Brokeback the Oscar. It's ridiculous and more than a little petty to discount the decades worth of performances all because the guy can't change his mindset when he's 90 freaking years old. Let's just be thankful he can still change his underwear.

Especially since he masturbates a LOT!

I don't think it's surprising for a nearly 100 year old man to be unable to wrap his head around homosexuality. But I do take issue with the way he expressed his distaste for the subject matter.

But wasn't Borgnine very active during the Civil Rights movement?

For the record, Borgnine has clarified his comments quoted in the article. It's not so much that he thinks gays are an abomination or are wrong (and going back to his autobiography, evidently spent large passages praising Rock Hudson and Montgomery Clift as close friends and colleagues), but that he loves women and didn't feel too keen on watching a movie about two guys fucking. It's not his thing. Which still isn't the correct mindset, but I can see where he's coming from...kinda. At any rate, this talk of not allowing him to speak is all sorts of silly.

This article
From TV hero to big screen legend, Ernest Borgnine was next on my list. During his Q&A he took the time to respond to a Los Angeles Times article that argued he shouldn't get his SAG Lifetime Achievement Award because he refused to see or vote for 'Brokeback Mountain' during the 2006 Oscar race. He explained the situation to the audience, saying:

"Wait a minute, I made a boo-boo somewhere along the line. I didn't go to see a certain picture because I said, 'If John Wayne were still alive, he'd be rolling in his grave.' I didn't care to see it because I'm more interested in women than I am in men. I got nothing against men. What the hell? Everything is everything, but you know, to each his own. Do they have have to say, 'Oh because he didn't see this picture, he doesn't deserve recognition?' Who cares? It's up to you. If you want to see it as a person, fine. I understand the acting is very good, but you're within your right to say, 'No, I don't care to see it.' There are some of my own pictures that I don't care to see either."

What gets me is the guy can't seem to wrap his head around the fact that a man can't be both alive and rolling over in his grave at the same time.

Unless... that man was buried alive! Holy shit!

Ah. So is there talk about not letting him speak? Or were you referring to my comment about taking issue with the way he expressed his distaste? Because I wasn't at all trying to say that we shouldn't let him speak.

I know politics, etc., but in what way is Haillee Steinfeld a supporting actress as opposed to a lead?
I think The Town and Inception deserve Best Ensemble nomination in SAG.

She's young and this is her first movie, so, into the supporting category she goes. A same fate befell Dev Patel for Slumdog Millionaire.

It's the Tatum O'Neal syndrome.

Clearly, she was no Keisha Castle Hughes.

And look what wonders that did for her career!

Just imagine the state she would've been in had she won! The Next Chill Factor, anyone!?
