I had a bit of a heart attack when I hit publish (hit publish on a wrong and embargoed thing) so please give it a look through.

Walther M the sex symbol. Gotta love the 70's.

Great film. Incredibly dark, creepy, and plain mean spirited. The way Matthau coldly plays and disposes of everyone around him so he can get away free is a blast to watch. And Baker makes a great villian.

Nice write up. Siegel had such a great early to mid-70's run. Cool to see his influence noted.

Easily one of my favorites.

Full disclosure: The scroll on the tattoo on my left upper arm reads "Last of the Independents". I had just seen the movie and was nineteen, drunk, and stupid.

I had a weird notion that it would be similar in tone to The Taking of Pelham 123 (I think I got that idea from Patton Oswalt) but I was surprised when I first watched it. It is rough and dark, in a way only films from the 70s seem to be.
I was actually a little shocked by the way women are treated in the film, especially by Baker. Maybe that's why these kinds of 70s films are so interesting and fun, when there's a villain in the film, they made him a real fucking villain.

Again, I love that no character makes light of the fact that Baker's name is "Molly".
