THE LAND OF FROST & PEGG DEBUT THE FULL TRAILER FOR PAUL

Looks funny. My problem is I need to lower my expectations. It's not going to be Shaun or Hot Fuzz funny.
Seeing Mottola's name up there at least has me stoked that the film will be actually good in addition to being a clever comedy for geekdom.
The trailers for Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead didn't capture the brilliance of those films. Nothing wrong with tempering expectations but there is no reason why it can't be as good as either film (if not better).
Well, Wright and Pegg wrote SHAUN and FUZZ. And Wright's arguably a better director than Mottola and a stronger writing partner than Frost. It's gonna be broader and probably less intricately constructed than SHAUN and FUZZ.

I can't help but feel like 90% of the problem with this is the woefully miscast Rogen. Voice acting a cartoon or all CGI character can be tricky and this just looks like it missed that mark.
Not a fan. Rogen. Pegg's hair. Not very funny stuff. SNL stunt casting.
That was a terrible trailer. And Rogen's gonna sink this one. He's a good actor but he doesn't have a great voice for this kind of role. His disaffected tone falls flat.
Yeah, Rogen is the weak link in the trailer. Still, if the movie's on a par with RUN FAT BOY RUN I'll be happy.
Can't imagine anyone outside us nerds giving a shit about this.
Come on, you sourpusses. It's Frost, Pegg, Wiig, Bateman, Motolla and even Rogen. At worst it's going to be mediocre. Elizabeth is right. Unless really dire reviews start coming in I remain optimistic.
Yeah, I have to agree with stelios. Thought the trailer made it look like it could be a lot of fun. Aside from all of the other pluses (Pegg/Frost writing, cast), Mottola helming it is reason enough to see it.

And *bleep* on Nick's "SNL stunt casting" comment. Both Wigg and Hader have proved their worth in comedies outside of that show.
I can't watch the trailer at work, but I've seen the movie. Thought it was hilarious.
The bit with the bagels made me laugh, mostly because anal probing is never not funny, because I'm incredibly immature. Looking forward to it.

SNL stunt casting: Wiig pulls me right out of movies. I think I last liked her in Knocked Up. She genuinely killed in that one. But I'll watch Hader in anything.
The trailer was pretty shitty, but I'd be really surprised if this wasn't at least an enjoyable time.

Adventureland
Didn't like her in Adventureland. And honestly Hader didn't belong in that movie either but DOUBLE STANDARD
post #19 of 42
I don't like you.
You're not even British.
Kristen Wiig's role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall was okay.
I don't even remember Wiig from Knocked Up...
Looks like it could be a fun road trip movie. And I don't mind Rogen in this. He's been much, much more annoying in other movies. He seems pretty mellow in the trailer.
Rogen's voice in animated things never works for me. I love seeing Pegg and Frost together again though.

The awkward network executive?
Just watched Hot Fuzz with my dad last night and I have to say Frost and Pegg will have my ass in a seat regardless of a shitty trailer. Truth be told I'll be watching this for those two alone. Fuck that CGI alien noise.
Jeez, I was one of the loudest voices against the teaser, but I thought this was a big improvement. I'm still not sure what they're going for exactly with Paul, and yes, Rogen was a weird choice, but I definitely laughed a few times.

It looks pretty broad, but honestly guys, Hot Fuzz is pretty broad. Broad does not equal bad.

Just to make it clear, I by no means think Pegg is infallible (I'd say the same about Frost, but has he even been in anything non-Pegg-related?). In fact, I think everything Pegg's been in that wasn't directed by Edgar Wright or a Star Trek movie has been pretty much shit, and even the Star Trek movie is hardly a home run. I wish the Burke & Hare trailer wasn't so crummy as well, so I had at least one potentially good Pegg movie on the way.

I can't believe someone praised fucking Run Fatboy Run upthread. That movie is a pile, Pegg or no Pegg.

Rooting for the best, but i have to agree. Nothing i've seen so far gets me excited.
Other than Paul being less of a dick than Roger, it seems like an episode of American Dad where Roger is on the run away from the family.
This may actually be the first Pegg/Frost flick I don't like.

??? Is that worth watching?

In my opinion, yes.

Doesn't look as bad as you guys make out. Agree about the complaints about Rogen and Wiig though.
Regarding Rogen, the first couple of minutes with Paul in the movie, his voice was kinda jarring, but by the end I felt like he was pretty well-cast. And I'm not generally a fan of Wiig, but she's actually really reserved here, which was nice. She could've easily gone over the top with it.

There are some great moments from the movie in that trailer, but they're horribly edited together.
Rogen's delivery of 'Ooh, Marmite!' sold me.

And the only thing I've hated Wiig in is Saturday Night Live. I thought she was really good on Bored to Death.

I think I've had my fill of nerd comedies. Once you start introducing aliens you know the genre has jumped the shark.
See also- The Great Gazoo in The Flintstones and Mork in Happy Days.

Right, because this is exactly like those old TV shows, which were such classics to begin with.

I can't believe I'm arguing this, but yes- Happy Days and The Flintstones are both quintessential examples of classic television.

I'm saying that the comedies about stoners and fanboys are all played out for now. The genre started with Clerks and ended with Knocked Up. Now it's just a question of what kind of twist to put on it to make it seem fresh.
Let's rework it as an action movie. Let's send them back in time. Let's introduce a space alien.
We are perilously close to Poochie The Dog territory.
The only part that made me perk up and smile was the idea of Jason Bateman as some sort of agent after the alien.

Otherwise....meh.
