ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT MOVIE RUMOR #2635

Of course this isn't real, but it's fun to speculate.

Holy shit, I can't believe the rumors are still going. Let the poor show rest, internet. Please.
Oh god... please don't do it. It's so nicely contained as it is!!!
Yeah, all this back and forth has put me very firmly in the "don't you do it" camp now.

Let it die. It's perfect as it is.

ETA: But then again...

They gotta let it go. The show was fine as it was no need to ressurect it in movie form.

(At the ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT gala premiere in 2012)
Mitchell Hurwitz: I've made a huge mistake.

I'm thinking that Mitchell Hurwitz is a little more keen on the movie with his recent shows not doing so well. Possibly some of the cast as well.

An AD movie is something I could take or leave, but I don't really get why people would actively want them *not* to do it. The series is fine as is but at the same time I don't feel like it ended so definitively that continuing it in some one-off form would spoil anything.

I mean, The Office (and Extras) both managed to come back and do amazing and very fitting "movies." Sure, they were "Christmas Specials" technically, but the length was basically the same.

Of course, they didn't really have an American studio system to please either, so...

For me, it's not because I mind them wrapping some things up. I simply don't believe that they could get that magic back for a movie. And the further away they get from it, the worse of an idea it seems. The cast had a 'lighting-in-a-bottle' quality and to try to get them all back together again seems... "don't buy." I mean... RISKY!
I'll separate myself from the pack and say I hope it happens.
The show was so packed with detail and jokes set within jokes that I don't know how they could replicate that in a 2 hour movie. I guess I'd like to see them try, but would be just as happy if they didn't.
At this point, the Arrested Development movie could only disappoint. I also kind of don't trust it to not go up it's own ass with meta references to the fact that it's a movie.
I'm pretty sure that the movie (and any mentions of it) is an inside joke amongst Hurwitz and the cast. It's like their way of fucking with one another, and fucking with everyone else at the same time.
A good deal of the cast & crew's work post-AD seems to prove that the show was lighting in a bottle, and would be better left alone.

They should make it. I'll either watch and enjoy, or pretend it never happened. Like those Matrix sequels they were talking about.

What Matrix sequels?

OK, now I want the movie just for this.

Never admit its denial.

The only thing I hope about the movie, is pulls a Family Guy or Futurama to allow it to come back to TV (yeah I know animation is easier).

The thing I hope for, it's not a Firefly situation.

I am with the camp of let it go. I don't think it is right for the big screen to begin with and I doubt it will live up to the hype.

Well if does indeed happen, Gene Parmesan really needs to pop up in it.

He was the best.
I would watch a Gene Parmesan movie. Of course we couldn't do it without ICE.

The Hunt for Bluth.

ICE: You're not his friend. You're a client.

The Magicians Alliance
GOB and the Sword of Destiny
GOB and the Final Countdown
GOB and the Chicken Dance (yeah not as good as the others, but he would team up with STEVE HOLTZ!)

Good. I loved Tennessee, Everyday People and of course Mr Wendel and have been awaiting a comeback by them. In a movie no less!

I've been watching all the Futurama movies the past week. AD could pull that off.

The real question is, why would a studio greenlight a film based on a TV series that got middling ratings? I'm still trying to figure out how Serenity got made.

Gene was far from the best...

Instead of a movie, I'd prefer Hurtwiz & Co. do this as pitched a few years back:

Not to mention that weird kid Tobias from next door keeps coming over and won't leave her alone. Oh no, look out, Baby Buster has gotten into the cookie jar again!

But what's this? It seems GOB has gotten hold of a real Wizard's spell book, and has sent the ADB into a wacky realm of the undead! Can Michael get the gang through this ordeal, or will the evil Lo Pan devour their souls! With the help of GOB's cute and cuddly rabbit Blaine, it looks like the Arrested Development Babies are in over their heads this time!"

I laughed, man. Props.

Put me in the "Please don't bother" column. Sometimes it's okay to let go and say goodbye.
