Dirk Gently

So was it good? I have read reviews from good to bloody great. Wondering what some of our English Chewers think.

I also need to know, come on people!

It was good. I was a little bothered by the shift from the more surreal aspects to a much more normal storyline but I suspect that was more budgetary concerns than anything.

Dirk was played more like an honest rapscallion than I thought he was in the books. He always seemed more of a con man in the books. MacDuff and Susan Way, on the other hand, were pitch perfect.

I think it's going to grow on me should it get picked up beyond the initial run.

ETA: The faux-suicide gag worked like gangbusters.

It's sat on my Sky box ready for watching this afternoon. Hopefully it's as good as it looks.

I'm a big fan of British humour, and this show does not disappoint. The accents are not hard to understand (I'm Canadian. I needed subtitles for a few eps of Sons Of Anarchy this year). The premise is offbeat, and requires you to pay attention once he starts connecting the dots. Loved his "white board", and the way they explained the cracks in the safety glass on his office door. All in all, I'll be back for this one.

Really liked it, some of the payoffs were a touch predictable but it was still a lot of fun. Hopefully we get more soon.

i got to it this weekend. really enjoyed it, well put together and on a budget from hell too ( i think an 8 year old me built a more convincing time machine). hope it gets commissioned.

On a budget I think Dark Tea Time would be amazing.

I'm still in two minds about this one, although I think I'll be back for the second episode. I haven't read the books so I was slightly surprised by the events at the end, although it was certainly a pleasant kind of surprise. I'm a bit unsure about the actor playing Dirk although hopefully he'll grow on me.

I guess Sherlock has spoiled me when it comes to programmes about two British guys investigating crimes.

Stephen Mangan's great, he's been bouncing around for years turning up in lots of great shows - the green wing (and few stinkers - Adrian Mole the cappucino years?) and while I'm not sure if he's got a handle on the character yet, I'm pleased he's got a lead in something with a lot of potential.

Green Wing deserves a thread of it's own for the sheer amount of Awesome it contained.

It's goofy fun. I hope they ramp up the surrealism quite a bit when this gets greenlighted for a full series, and I'm a bit disappointed it wasn't a throwback eighties setting (the entire plot of the first book revolved around early computer technology) but I enjoyed it, and the Gently character feels about right to me.

re. the spoiler by Mr. Adam (SPOILER back, so swipe): I'd say the time machine was intended to be a bit crappy looking. Made me laugh, anyway

Best joke was the fake suicide, made even funnier by the shot of Dirk getting comfy to tuck in the doctor's dinner while reading the files.
