My wife, some friends of mine and I do some amateur endurance racing. I realize that I just strung three words together there that will make most of your eyes glaze over. Amateur. Endurance. Racing. Basically, we have to take a sub $500 used POS and turn it into a racing car without spending much money. We then run the cars in 14-24 hour long races. It really is huge fun. Anyway, the organizers encourage the teams to develop themes and dress the cars up a bit for fun. We’ve run four races with our 1991 Escort and our themes have ranged from totally lame (Starsky and Hutch) to half way reasonable (NASA/Space Shuttle). We are getting a new car, a Mazda MX-3, and we are trying to come up with a good theme for the new car. As there are some creative people around here I figured I would see if you guys have any good ideas.
Some guidelines are needed. We are not rich. I can’t turn the car into a working model of Nakatomi Plaza. We can’t drag anything behind the car. We can’t have things fall off the car. The team will dress up in theme specific clothes for part of the race. Most of the obvious stuff has been done. Mad Max, Star Wars, zombies, Back to the Future and all that.
