What to expect with the new CHUD

If all goes well, we're going to foist this beast on you over Christmas break. That way we all have until January when folks return from break to get comfortable with it and whatnot.

The community is going to be different. All of your accounts and logins and PMs and stuff will be preserved. It'll just take some acclimating but when the smoke clears the new boards/chat room/wikis/other stuff should please the shit out of you.

Here's the front page:

I'm really stoked this is happening and am looking forward to playing with the new toy.
Hmm, I was expecting it to be bigger.
I'm fucked. My monitor is not nearly tall enough.
Excitement mounts! I have to say I am hotly anticipating the chance to take the NEW CHUD for a spin, and I have no doubt that when the dust settles we'll see some real improvements with the site

PS Any word on the APP?

EDIT: I miss the jade logo though...
I guess it is too late, but it seems like a missed opportunity not having an article on the front page.

Looks good though and I'm looing forward to it.
It's fabulous.
Oh, and I hope you can find a way to work some ads into the design this time heh...
Fingers crossed. Hope you knock this out of the park.
What? Black and Green? Really??

...kidding. Can't wait until I can poke around the new CHUD!
that looks sick

Nick Nunziata, At the Dawn of a new decade, a...New, CHUD.COM is Born! I am looking forward to this.

Having an article on the front page is blog style. Having the front page be a contents page is website style. I don't mind a few blogs, like Slashfilm for example, but I much prefer the significantly more suave and debonair way CHUD rolls.

I got a chubby.
Looks nice.
News headlines that don't wrap around five times! Yay!!

Looks real nice. Also looks pretty mobile-friendly as is, too.
Hooray. I'm totally ready for this.
Sweet.
Awesome, can't wait for the glorious day it launches!

Getting rid of the left rail is a ballsy move. I'm curious to see what sort of navigational tools you'll have for folks once they're in an article. I like this preview a lot so far -- it really does look much more mobile-friendly. Good site design is really tough. We had a couple of departments working on ours during the last big redesign and it took ages. My hat is off to you guys!

Okay, yeah its still here. I've basically shut up about it, but I've worked on it. Lots of polish and what not. This sums of everything basically.

Looks nice look forward to seeing it.

navigating the menu is super easy. i don't think it goes back chronologically as much as the current sidebar does, but I think how easy it is will out weigh having 8 articles instead of 10 to choose from

that said, oh baby does it look sweet
lol you guys still think there's gonna be an iPhone app

I have the damn thing on my iphone already. It's beta, but it's real.

Fucking sourpusses wear me out.
You know you've brought those kinds of jokes on yourself, Nick. Maybe try to be less sensitive about them.
No, he hasn't.
Eh. Guess you and I have been reading two different sites.
The only way Nick has brought all this bullshit on himself is by letting everyone think that they can have an opinion on how he runs his own site.

I'm not saying that all this bullshit isn't happening, I'm saying that it is completely unwarranted and childish. It reminds me of that Louis CK bit about the guy bitching about the wi-fi on the plane being down. Only worse.

Or by making all the fits and starts public knowledge so that we've heard "coming soon" more times than at an etiquette fetishist gangbang.
And how exactly is the new stuff not coming as soon as he said detrimental to anyone? At least enough to warrant such constant behavior?
Who's bitching? I don't have an iPhone and I could care less about an app.
I was making a joke because the entire situation is funny. Nick posts grand plans, says big things are happening soon, sets a date, nothing happens. Ever. I used to wonder why he didn't learn to stop announcing shit before it was done. But I think I've finally figured it out. It's because every single time he does there are still people who actually believe him. I guess tthat gets him jazzed or something.
Now I'm pretty sure Nick believes it when he says there will be a new app/board/site/movie coming soon. But why would anyone else?
It's not detrimental, but you can't be surprised when people joke, "Oh, it's really coming?" when we've heard it so many times before.

Not saying any of the delays were Nick's fault, but maybe a little less transparency would have people feeling a little less jaded about the whole process. Like was said in the other thread, let the stuff come when it's ready, and furthermore, don't hype it until it's ready.

There's joking and there's trolling. And they're wildly different things.
As someone who is witnessing the response to a different iPhone app launch, let me just say my heart goes out to all of you who will be receiving endless questions immediately after launch about where the Android/Blackberry/whatever version of the app is and why isn't it out now and why develop for the iPhone anyway since it sucks and why why why why why. . .

We get it, you don't like Doug.
Sure, if you say so.
Personal taste may vary, but Doug has been making this joke since before your join date.
I'm sure that sounded better in your head, Chris.
It did. It sure did.
I don't mind the wait for the iPhone app. It's got to be good, and we all know it's going to happen. It's not like any of our worlds are going to fall apart soon if we don't get the app. It will be released. Patience is the word. It's a word I wasn't all that familiar with until recent years.

I like all the little updates that Sairus does for the app and Nick does about the revamp, and this new site. I also like all the Tweets (of course I also retweet them) about the new features for CHUD's revamp.

I'm not finding it annoying that he's keeping the new site mysterious at all. He wants it to be something special and surprising. No problem at all.

Did you just try to pull rank on me? On the internet? Heh.

To clarify, no I don't dislike Doug, or you, or anyone else. The ones I dislike I don't bother responding to. And these people, I dislike for stuff that in the end are more important than whether they enjoy a movie site as much as I do. Just as some people feel its their prerogative to express their opinion whenever discussion about site happens so do I.
Really looking forward to the release of the new site.
Looking forward to the newness whenever it comes.

Is there a way this can launch at 12:01 AM on Christmas or have it delivered down a virtual chimney or something? Holiday synergy!
merde.
Well, I think the new design looks great.
Looks good to me, can't wait!
