I was very excited to see the American Reunion movie. I saw American Pie just after college and remembered it was quite funny.
Jim, Michelle, Oz, Heather, Stifler reunite for their high school...
It is amazing that the titular Mega Shark/Giant Octopus fight scene didn't make the cut for this thread, lol
That fight scene was SO BORING! The shark jumping scene was hilarious and earns extra points for being really ironic, since the rest of the movie was terrible.
I know it's been talked to death, but the Saving Private Ryan D-Day Beach sequence really is so superior to the rest of the film. Oh, and Samuel Jackson's Big Rousing Speech in Deep Blue Sea.
While we're on the subject of great opening scenes-- The pre-credit sequence in Ninja Assassin. For about ten minutes, I thought the movie was going to rock.
The 1st 15 minutes of Chopper are so much more dynamic than the rest of the film. In spite of Eric Bana's total commitment to the character, it feels like the film loses something in the 2nd and 3rd acts.
The European vacation in "The Rules of Attraction". Not a great movie, but the combination of editing and narration makes that scene (or should I call it a montage?) a masterpiece. The split screen build up to Sossmon and Van Der Beek meeting face to face is awesome too. Feels like it belongs in a better, more romantic movie.
I've heard that the only reason David Cronenberg wanted to make The Dead Zone was for a couple of the future-vision sequences. The rest of the movie *is* pretty flat.
For that matter, the naked bathhouse fight may be the sole justification for Eastern Promises. Though the scene where Viggo's tattoos get critiqued was also pretty excellent.
Kung-Fu Panda is a pretty decent Dreamworks film (dreading the sequel though) but if anything were to pre-sage the greatness they nailed in How To Train Your Dragon, it's the fantastic prison escape sequence in Panda.
