FROM DAMON'S DESK: AN INTRODUCTION OF SORTS...

Thread Starter
Meet the real me.

Excellent! Excited about the column.
I'm six four, so no "I thought you'd be taller" jokes, please.
Excited to read your column Damon.
Looking forward to more. I always knew your last name was fake, but figured your first name was actually Andre for some reason. After a while I just kinda forgot about it. Now it all makes sense.
I thought you'd be six five.
I still remember chuckling at the coincidence when my friends and I sat down to watch the film, and then having a real-life Hitchcockian dolly-zoom moment of realization when he drops that line about his name.

Very excited for the column.
Excited, excited, excited.

Can't wait for more, Damon!
"If people came to Portland, I would get them drunk."

I can personally vouch for this.
Awesome! You're one of the best voices on the boards, I'm sure this is exactly what will push CHUD over the top once again.

A little side note: as a Tiziano Sclavi fan since childhood - I can't rememeber a time when I didn't know about him, mostly thanks to Dylan Dog - finding out through the internet that people halfway around the world loved Dellamorte Dellamore as much as me and my brother did was the coolest thing ever back when I first entered the web.

For the longest time I thought you were black, though.

It's great that you'll be writing more. Your movie stuff is great, but it's your columns about the industry, and film in relation to society, that I enjoy most. You wrote something once...I think it might have been about Owen Wilson's suicide attempt (but probably another column), and it really moved me. You're good.
Also, aren't both your real and pen last names French?
Dellamorte's Italian.
The greatest shame of all is that the wedding photographer "lost" the shot of you giving him the shocker while we signed our marriage certificate.

This times infinity.
I've recently started becoming more and more excited about the new CHUD, and this only helps. You've got my attention, and I'm glad you and your voice have stuck around!
This is huge! While it is a shame to give up such a cool name that you have spent the past 10 years establishing brand recognition for, your given name is pretty cool too so this should be a fairly seamless transition IMHO. Can I assume the BO column will keep it's current name, just with a new byline?
Awesome news indeed. More Andre/Damon is a very good thing.
I'll be looking forward to your stuff.
Awesome. I remember him being an awesome guy.
I believe Nick mentioned somewhere else the reason for him wanting you to discard the pen name but I must voice my displeasure at whatever that was and this. I like Dre. At least on the boards; the name change on the board seems a bit wrong.

That all being said, what's with the dancing. I don't see you dancing. Do you dance for fun or is that some kind of side money?

Look forward to the column but do so wish it was under what we have come to know you as.
I've always been me when Andre. I've actually been faker under my real name. As per the column, ultimately I'm still Dellamorte.

I dance for fun. I love it (obviously), but I think part of that comes from being six four and white. I'm statistically not supposed to be good on the floor, so I like that it surprises people, and I also think that... as a child I was great at math, but it came easy so I hated it. I prefer things that are at least superficially challenging, but also against expectations.
can't wait to see the future columns

yours has really flickered an interest in the money side of film production for me and i thank you for it
post #24 of 46
Dellamorte unmasked.

I don't know if I can handle this. How can you be a French-Italian aristocratic playboy/burglar if I know your real name and job? You just made CHUD a less exciting place. Congratulations.
Looking forward for more.
So Damon Does Box Office from now on?

The Dellamorte name was cool, but I like the idea of using real names. That's the biggest weakness of AICN, in my eyes; it creates a lack of accountability.
Been wondering about the name. An itch scratched!

I also can't believe how many people haven't seen/were unaware of Cemetery Man.

Good luck with the new column!
terrific read.
Sorta disappointed he wasn't actually a hydra with three greasy black guys for heads, but welcome to the real name brigade, and continue shaming us all with your knowledge of film.
I'd been wondering lately when we were going to (hopefully) see more of you around here. Glad to hear/read this!
Really fantastic news. I'm not terribly into film B.O. that much but your column has always kept me enraptured due to the sheer quality of the writing. Glad to hear you're branching out.

Also, creepy picture!
Cool story, and the whole 'unmasking' thing is kinda fun. I'd like to echo the others here that appreciate your writing voice and am looking forward to future material.

Now if Nick Nunziata would just reveal his real name we'd be set. I mean, "Nunziata"... c'mon, be serious.
Looking forward to the column. By the way, Damon is still a pretty cool name. If I had that name, I'd have that creepy chorus from Omen as my ringtone.
Pretty excited about this column. Going to miss the moniker, tho.
Nice photo.
Looking forward to the column. This is just what CHUD needs.

I get the accountability thing, but ultimately, it's all about the voice.

Or, "not a Richard Bachman fan, eh?"
Bah, no one knew who Bachman was until King was outed. To me, your pseudonym stuck out here. Glad you're moving past it.

(Seriously, guys, people thought "Andre Dellamorte" was a real name? "Dre of the Dead"!?)
I can't believe everyone is so readily accepting of the obviously fake moniker "Damon Houx".

I mean, hello? Damon Houx = Demon Hoax.

Because he's evil and he's a liar. The look in his eyes in that photo says it all.
Well, "Richard Bachman" is a far cry from the likes of "Hercules the Strong" and some of the other AICN names. And the motivations feel different too.
Now please explain the CELEBRITY FINGERCUFFING thing. WTF is that about?
For a number of the fake names it is/was about working in the industry. But ultimately, you write enough, you develop a voice, and the name should hopefully be unimportant. Ultimately I liked not the lack of accountability, but the separation of church and state. With a lot of female writers, I check to see if they're hot. But really, that has no correlation to their writing ability. I appreciate Terrence Malick's approach, "the work is the work" and not wanting to be the center of attention. Writing is narcissistic to begin with, so whatever dampers that, I guess. But if my real name or knowing what I look like (which, I mean, I do a videocast) makes people like me more or less, so be it.

As per my signature here, that was me and Jeremy Smith goofing one day. I don't know how we got there, but I would watch that show. Jeremy deserves most of the credit for that.
I always pictured you as Prince writing about movies. I don't give a damn what your real/fake name is, I'm gonna keep rolling with that shit.

Looking forward to your next piece, sir.
Still trying to wrap my head around the concept that a guy names Damon Houx assumes the pseudonym of Andrew Dellamorte, instead of it being the other way around.

But whatever: glad you will be writing more for the site.
I'm gonna miss Andre Dellamorte, even though you're literally still here. I was very happy to learn that you were going to stick around on CHUD. This is more great news.

Also, I feel like I was given a sneak peek at the Damon Houx reveal a while before this when I started watching your box-office analysis videos on Geekweek. That's pretty cool.

I'll be looking forward to learning a lot.
With the video-cast, and Twitter and Facebook, I gave up on it being a real secret a couple years ago. But when there were people who actively hated the site, people who actively hated Chud and (when it existed) Devincf.com, I was very happy to not have my identity out there. At this point there's no point. Those guys have either grown up, or killed themselves. Then again, I wouldn't say I'm as polarizing as Devin.

That said, seeing my real name on the site is strange. Give me a week.
