Oh my God. Like, there isn't a GIF of Chandler big enough for how much of a boneheaded moronic sub-neanderthal "Oh My God" statement this is.

Mad love for the guy who mentioned "Beautiful Girls," though. There's an underrated flick.

I will second Hudson Hawk. I like it because its so goofy.

"I bet you love him too!"

"In a weird Catholic way, yeah."

As a kid, I thought Krull was awesome.

Sky High. It's better than a live-action Disney flick (which I generally hate) about a superhero high school has any right to be. The script has a surprising amount of wit and intelligence, the cast is terrific, the production design and effects are enjoyably goofy, and it's just plain fun.

Sky High's not irrational at all. That movie's great, and cast to perfection. Even the kids managed to dodge that Disney trap of being utterly disposable moppets.

Also, I forgot the girl who would be Ramona Flowers was in that.

Thank you, good sir! I agree about the kids, especially Michael Angarano (he plays Will) and the aforementioned Miss Winstead.

Fun fact: Two of the co-writers also created Kim Possible, one of Disney's better cartoons in recent years.

Said it before, and I'll say it again. Event Horizon. The first half is really effective and scares the fuck out of me, something most "scary" movies totally fail to do. Second half is a mess, but I can still watch it pretty much any time.

Gah the new boards and I are not getting along.

The best non-guilty part of that movie is the videotape of the last crew, and Fishburne's pitch perfect reaction.

Totally makes an otherwise horrifying moment quite silly, but I love how it's shot handheld, like someone videotaping friends at a party.

Agreed with you about Silent Hill, by the way. It's not a fully-successful film by a long shot, but the good parts are pretty much perfect.

I think there's a lot to appreciate in this film. The plot is fucking retarded (there's seriously no worse way to adapt a famous franchise than to say "What if they ended up in the real world?!", but Dolph is really likable -- his effort really shows through, and he comes off as genuine. There's some decent action scenes. Chelsea Field looked pretty good in her Teela jumpsuit.

And Frank Langella's Skeletor is sublime.

Zombie's Halloween movies are among YOUR FAVORITES?

How many times do we have to have this thread?

If you want to start The Redundant Thread Clearing House Thread of Redundancy, be my guest. But I'm pretty sure there's one of those too.

Nuthin' irrational about that one. A great movie, arguably the best of the de facto Jim Henson 80s fantasy trilogy, though as long as we're on the subject of irrational favourites I probably still have more affection for Labyrinth.

I'll throw in with RoboCop 2 and Hudson Hawk as well. In no way are they objectively good movies, but they're the rare movies that are entertaining enough to be worth "turning your brain off". It's not as much fun, but I remember Johnny Mnemonic with some fondness as well.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but is Spaceballs any actual good, or is it just that I was 12 when I saw it?

Henson didn't have anything to do with Return to Oz, but I'll agree it doubles well with Labyrinth.

ETA: Spaceballs is only good if you're twelve when you're watching it.

I woke up early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, so I closed my eyes and grabbed a disc off the rack at random.  Man, I'd forgotten how much I love Vision Quest.  It could well be my fave 80's teen romance/coming of age flick ever.

Just received "Macon County Line" in the mail.  Wish they (the powers that be) would put more of those old films from my youth on dvd, like "Baby Blue Marine," and others like that.

I love Happy Gilmore. It perfectly captures the frustration of the game.

"YOU'RE GONNA DIE, CLOWN!"

"Happy learned how to puuuuuuttt..."

Undercover Blues

Ishtar

Hudson Hawk

Last Action Hero

I unashamedly adore these flicks and I really wish I had the Ishtar soundtrack.  Yep, I'm that guy.

Undercover Blues is hilarious.

Jane Blue: You took our child into a knife fight?
Jeff Blue: It was a fair fight. Two of them, two of us...

I also think Hudson Hawk is over-hated. Last Action Hero, to me, is too confused on what kind of tone it wants to be good. I like parts of it.

Undercover Blues introduced me to the brilliance of Stanley Tucci.  I'd seen him before in other things, but this was the first time his performance really grabbed me. MUERTE!  Also, Dennis Quaid's cockiness is sublime and infectious.

Bad guy: Don't make any sudden movements.

Jeff Blue: Why not? Is there a bee on me?

hudson hawk is just good old fashioned silly fun.

The Spirit is a horrible movie. However whenever its on Encore, I can't stop watching it. I can't believe someone read the script, and thought this could be a good movie. At least Sam Jackson looks like he is having fun in it.
