Lamont Cranston: 45th and Madison. You are a barbarian.
Shiwan Khan: Thank you. We both are.

Also, it ends with a song written and produced by JIM STEINMAN. We need more movies that end with those.

I love The Shadow, and the special effects hold up surprisingly well, as do the performances.

Curry actually grates like hell on me in that flick, possibly the only time he has, but otherwise, yeah, nothing but love for that movie.

Agree with that - awesome score.

Some of the matte paintings or whatever the hell they used for the interiors of the Black Fortress are great too.

Oh and Liam Neeson dies in the same way as he does in Episiode I too.

The biggest sin of 'Krull'? Creating (and marketing) a fairly cool weapon with THE GLAIVE and then not using it until the final 3 minutes of the film. We were all had.

Ken Marshall is probably tending bar at a TGI Fridays with Sam J. Jones.

Mortal Kombat - Yeah, it's basically just a sci-fi cheeseball take on Enter the Dragon, but seeing it at 15 - as an obsessive fan of the games - was a near religious experience. Love Linden Ashby's Johnny Cage, robo Goro and the fight scenes totally blew my mind. In fact, I thank MK for soon after directing me towards Jackie Chan films. I still get hooked every time I watch it.

Superman Returns - Yeah, the kid and Bosworth are a weak, but I totally adore everything else.

I always thought the Glaive was crap - even as a kid you didn't really know what it did. Apparently only the power of the Glaive could destroy the Beast - ...er, why?

The way the slimy things bury into the earth when the Slayers die were great. Plus the huge spider in the web freaked me out as a kid.

I'll back you up on MK. I know Paul WS Anderson gets alot of flack on this board but out of 20 years of filmmakers hitting a wall trying to crack the videogame to movie puzzle, nobody has figured it out as well as this guy has. MK is still the best videogame based movie out there. Faint praise but not any less an achievement.

Fuck your couch.
I was really disappointed by "Nashville". I thought the end was amazing and the ending alone justified watching the movie, but the road to it was rough. I was bored for most of its running time. Maybe Altman's style just isn't my thing. I'll have to watch a few more of his movies before I decide, though. I don't see what's wrong with comparing it to "Crash". I didn't even say "Crash" was better. I only compared them because they both have ensemble casts and cut between different stories featuring different characters. It was a purely structural comparison, nothing to do with quality.

Can't let praise for The Shadow pass without doing the same for The Phantom.

Treat Williams was great in 'The Phantom', but the movie didn't work for me on the whole. I owe it a re-watch, though.

Not really. The Shadow will always have a seat in first class as it's a genuinely enjoyable flick. It's only a hair below The Rocketeer, IMO. The Phantom, despite Billy Zane rockin' the sh*t out of his role, is a laboured mess with a Prequel-quality screenplay.
The Phantom has Catherine Zeta-Jones as a sky pirate. I'm just sayin'.
Also have to give Krull points for the cyclops and the fire mares. Even if that sequence seemed to go on as long as Kirk's trip around the Enterprise in the first Trek film.

It also has solid direction from Simon Wincer, and some terrific lines sprinkled throughout. "No smoking in the skull cave." Terrific adaptation. Billy Zane was great as the Phantom; he really go buff for the role as well.

I love me some Flight of the Intruder. Great performance by Dafoe, terrific aerial scenes at the end. Some great classic Milius lines.

Eurotrip: Dominatrix Lucy Lawless. Hammertime with Rade Serbedzija. Totally out of left field and hilarious Matt Damon cameo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFCOa4tjHeo. Jacob Pitts at his best. Lots of gratuitous nudity. What's not to like?

At the risk of being de-credentialed (not just here but at life in general)... I have watched Rocketman more than once. On purpose. And I always laugh.
I saw Krull theatrically. All I recall is the egg stain on the screen, left the night before by a Rocky Horror audience. I must ask - how often are people re-watching Krull these days? When'd you see it last? Are you waiting on a blu ray? Burning questions.

Johnny Mnemonic - Terrible film but always wanted to see William Gibson on film and this is the closest we have come so far. I WANT ROOM SERVICE!!

The Dukes of Hazzard - Dumb as hell but the car chases and slapstick humour really worked. Plus Jessica Simpson + pink bikini = droooool

Robocop 2 - As bad as this is its still better than 3 and everything except the scenes where Robocop is reprogrammed to be nice is quite good fun.

Gamer - Cant stop watching this for some reason

Equilibrium - ditto

Reindeer Games - Preposterous and far fetched it may be but I wheel this out every christmas as its basically about a dude wanting to get back to his family for the season and it has a heart warming ending...

Eurotrip is actually pretty funny.

John Carpenter's THE FOG. It's a good movie and there's lots to like about it, but I still can't quite rationalise why it's one my favourite films to rewatch.

Wasn't that whole speech Keanu's idea and he wanted to deliver some spiel in iambic pentameter or something? I forget.

Anyway, that was the only time I heckled a movie and got audience applause. Keanu: "I WANT ROOM SERVICE! I WANT MY SHIRTS LAUNDERED!" Me: "I WANT MY MONEY BACK!" Audience: *applause*

No shame needed here. Not as great as 1, but it's a smarter, funnier satire than a lot of people give it credit for.

Just....that score. That fucking score.

Sunshine is one of my all time favorites and I could easily see it sneaking into my top 20. I realize that its deeply flawed and its not hard to recognize just how far off the rails the third act goes, but its always intense, creepy, beautifully shot, and thought-provoking. To me its the epitome of endlessly watchable.

Perhaps this WILL lump me in to an "I have no taste" club, but I enjoy the heck out of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Part of my brain KNOWS it's garbage, but another part just doesn't care. I just watched it again recently on my portable dvd player and I enjoyed it yet again. It starts and I'm along for the ride. It never bores me, and (sadly?) I'd watch it again.

For all of its faults (and it has many), this film has the single most interesting interpretation of Captain Nemo ever put to film.

I'll also admit to watching this film whenever it's on. I don't know why but it draws me in every single time.

I'm gonna need another go to know for sure, but I'm pretty sure after said second viewing, the G.I. Joe movie's gonna qualify for me here.

LoEG wouldn't be so bad if it didn't have the specter of the comic looming over it. As a cheesy adventure flick, it's good fun. As an adaptation, it's a disaster.

A sh*t adaptation that fires on all cylinders & never fails to entertain, which is more than could be said for the better regarded V For Vendetta.

re: The Phantom
I still have (& secretly cherish) the skull ring that was given away at the box office.

Many of my faves have been mentioned (1941, The Shadow, Lifeforce), but I have to add that I'm an unabashed fan of Jason X. I think it's easily one of the most entertaining and unexpectedly good-natured of the Friday films.

Evolution. Yeah, the plot's a mess, but I'll be damned if that cast doesn't make it loads of fun.

Ira Kane: If I was a giant nasty alien bird in a department store, where would I be?
Harry Block: Lingerie.
Ira Kane: Not you, the bird.
Harry Block: Lingerie!

ISHTAR

Not only have I seen it way too many times, but I was fairly ecstatic to discover that it came out on Bluray today, meaning I can finally retire my ancient VHS copy.
Tellin' the truth can be a dangerous business.
Ishtar's a lot like Waterworld: if they'd even cost a third as much as they ended up costing, they'd probably be remembered as fair entertainments that didn't quite click rather than the disasters they became known as.
It is a visibly expensive film. Should look great on Blu.

The Black Hole - The tone of this movie transfixed me as a kid and I still watch it through those eyes. I love the haunted ship vibe. And the shot of the meteor fireball hurtling through the ship as our heroes scamper across the bridge in the foreground.

Summer School - I still quote this.

King Solomon's Mines (Richard Chamberlain) - I still quote this.

Bakshi's Fire and Ice - Rotoscoped Franzetta that pre-dated by AD&D addiction. Cherished.

Beautiful Girls - It just gets me, and I love the soundtrack. Yeah, some of the dialogue is too Written, but I really don't care.

GREAT movie. I've got your back on this one.

Also, they filmed a good chunk of this film over by my brother's house.

The Longest Yard...the Sandler version.

yes, it's not as good as the original. But it's a fun flick. Sandler keeps his usual bag of tricks to a minimum. And Cromwell (who's good in pretty much anything) is aces as the Warden.
