Awww damn it.

I forgot he was in Inception!

While THE LOST WORLD isn't a good film, I've always loved Pete in it, I thought he was great.

Wonderful article for an amazing actor, Elizabeth. First thing I ever saw him in was Alien3, and revisiting it when I got the Blu-ray set a few weeks ago was great. He's one of the standouts in that film that has many actors who almost lookalike.

Thanks. I feel shit for actually making typos in the post. Thankfully, CHUD commenters can make me feel even shittier.

Last obit I'm doing.

If it makes you feel any better, I doubt you are the only person to misspell his name today.

This was the first thing I thought of upon reading this news today...

Quote:
Pete Postlethwaite is also notable as The Man Who Said No to Steven Spielberg. When offered the part of The Lost World: Jurassic Park's Ahab-like T. rex hunter, Postlethwaite told his agent that he wanted to see the script. ''She said, 'Nobody reads that script,''' recalls the British thespian in his nonchalant way. ''I said, 'Well, forget it.''' Only after a phone call from Spielberg himself did Postlethwaite relent. ''I loved his acting in [Father],'' explains Spielberg, ''and said, 'There's an actor I'd love to work with someday.' I have been a big fan of his.''
...I doubt Lost World actually even had a script. Mr. Postlethwaite still managed to class up that turd, though.

RIP Pete. You will be missed. I wouldn't be too hard on yourself for the mispelling Elisabeth. It's a tough one. Hell, it probably took 5 or 6 years for him to get it right.

I liked him in it even before I saw the extended version, where his storyline actually makes some bit of sense.

But he was amazing in The Usual Suspects. Until he went from odd to threatening, I wasn't sure the movie was worth watching.

In the Name of the Father is so obviously great that I won't bother mentioning it.

God, he had a great face. A face which never gave a performance which let me down. I'm going to miss that face turning up in new films.

He was the only actor in Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet with the class to stick to speaking his role in the intended iambic pentameter. Also, he threatened Mr. Macmanus in a way that still gives me chills.
You really missed out by not making the title of the article THE POSTLETHWAITE IS OVER.
No one in this history of man has ever enunciated the word "McManus" better than Pete Postlethwaite did.

He made that movie worse. By being so great. It just served to illustrate how awkwardly wrong all the other actors' performances were.

I would just like to uselessly and fanboyishly state that I think he would have made a great Gandalf.

Oh J. David Rhodes.... where is my Kane clapping?

Yeah, as a man who shows the Luhrman Romeo + Juliet often, he is above and beyond the best actor in it. This makes me sad. I love character actors who bring their A game to every role, despite the film.

Brassed Off.

If you haven't seen it, do so now.

It's a movie I probably love more for its nostalgia value (I was 13 or so when it came out), but man, Pete is fantastic in Dragonheart. Every scene with him is just more alive and refreshing. Did not see this one coming at all, he looked fine (if skinny) in The Town and Inception.

One of the good ones.

Nice obituary.

He had an amazing voice, and could deliver the most mundane lines with frightening intensity. My personal favorites are The Lost World, Romeo Plus Juliet, The Omen remake and a little Irish comedy called Rat, in which he turns into a Rat.

Man, this is the biggest bummer. Definitely my favorite character actor. He was way too young.

Check out his TV show "The Sins" if you get the chance:

Can't believe it's 10 years ago already. 64 is too early.

Another not very good film that I liked him in: the Dark Water remake. Pete was quite funny as the sad/weird/strangely accented building supervisor who just wanted to watch his porno tapes in peace (at maximum volume).

Nice obit.

You want a great, hissable villain? Look nor further than Pete's Obadiah in the Sharpe's movies (with Sean Bean). He was only in a few of them but he absolutely stole the show from everyone else. I've liked him in everything that I've seen him in, but Obadiah is definitely his best role.

Great and distinct character actor. Terrible loss to film.

A fitting tribute to a great man, well done.
