Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

I will pay 20 dollars (way better than a no-prize) to anyone who can make sense of the opening 10 minute's geography, timeline, and logic. Part 4 ends with Michael Myers being destroyed, in beautiful slow motion, by a parade of shotguns and rifles. He falls into a well/sinkhole/black hole and they throw dynamite in after him. He somehow crawls to safety and passes out outside of a fisherman/bum's shanty. A YEAR LATER he wakes up and kills the fisherman/bum. That means the bummerman took care of Michael for 365 days, laying him out on a cot. But never told anyone of his comatose friend?

Was he able to feed Michael or did he have an IV drip in his riverside shanty (that by the way, is somehow at the bottom of a well/sinkhole/black hole)? Or, if Michael is supernatural and doesn't need to eat, didn't that fact concern the bum/fisherman?

I've seen this movie four times, but the complete lack of logic, plot, and characters (only a slasher movie could lack all three and still be considered a narrative film) mean that I forget everything except vague details 10 minutes after I see it. I only remember strange details, like being woken from a fever dream. "I know there were kittens in a barn...and a little girl crawling through air ducts...I have to stop taking Vicodin before going to bed..."

This is still one those films horror fans are begging for a director's cut of. I'm pretty sure the studio tinkering couldn't have made it that much worse, and that fans will be pretty disappointed when they finally get what they're asking for.

Why are you doing this to yourself?

A horrorfest I was at last October had a Producer's Cut bootleg for Curse of Michael Myers (the one Halloween film I haven't seen). Does something like that exist for part 5?

Regardless, I don't think anyone will ever know who the fuck the "Man in Black" was supposed to be.

Once as a youngster, once again as a teen, a few years ago when I first bought the DVD and now. I think it's the challenge of trying to remember a movie like this that brings me back. I have the same problem with Friday the 13th Part V.

Shit, ignore me, I'm confusing 5 and 6. 5 is the one with the little girl, right? And she has some kind of random psychic powers, but not telekenetic powers like the little girl in Friday the 13th 7?
Only thing I remember about this is that it was a very ugly looking film. Come to think of, so was Friday 5 and Nightmare 5.

Right. The first 40 or so minutes she has psychic powers, but forgets about them when the script has no more use for them.

Leprechaun In Tha Hood was no bed of roses either.

THE FIVE CURSE. Someone get Dark Shape in here to report on Saw V.

In defense of the movie, I forget about my psychic powers all the time.

Is 5 the one where Myers takes his mask off and is crying before he tries to kill the little girl?

This is the one where a majority of the kills are done by farming instruments. And there's a barn full of multi-ethnic kittens.

I take it back, now I remember Loomis dropping a chain net over Michael and then beating him with a 2x4 at the end of this. I think I had blocked most of Part 5 out.

I'd say that Nightmare 5 is one of the best looking films in the series. That's pretty much all it was going for it is gorgeous production design.

It's explained in Curse, at least in the Producer's Cut.

At the end of Part 5 though, they were just winging it. Nobody knew who in the hell Mr. Boots was, not even the writers. Every way and any way to continue a series that should have never started after the first film ended.

Yes

I always thought the production design of Nightmare 5 looked like it was filmed through a snot rag; bad effects, bad staging, and a muddied palate.

Really? I guess it's kind of too smoky for its own good, but I think its one of the better music video inspired horror films of the era, though it has nothing on Razorback...

Are you sure the DVD transfer isn't just shite?
Bad transfer could be it, but honestly, I saw it in the theater and thought it looked pretty cruddy there as well.

To keep on the subject of Halloween 5, I was googling pics to jog my memory: Is this the worst Shape mask? Surely it has to be.
Yeah, the mask is all fucked up looking in 5. The sequels are all shit but this one is like shit that was eaten and shit out again.

Yeah, it is. I remember reading the Fangoria article where the effects guy was complaining that it kept tearing and thinking to myself 'Didn't you make it, and with a bigger budget than the original?'

Haven't seen this flick in years but I remember being really pissed off by how much time Michael spent driving that black car around.

Michael drove in this? I know he stole that 1940's gangster car from the mother and little girl in H20, which I always thought was a very bizarre car for a soccer mom to be driving.

He drove in the original.

"Maybe someone gave him lessons!"

One of those moments where trying to cover up a plothole only makes it worse.

Michael drove throughout the series, but this is the only movie where he uses a car to try to run down his victims. Which seemed decidedly un-Shape of him.

One of the weirdest horror sequels of all time, I saw it one too many times on Cinemax back in the day. Its a train wreck.

The Myers house is a huge mansion, somehow a small town police department can afford a SWAT team, Michael Myers wears a Frankenstein mask for a long time. Tons of weird shit that makes no sense, but I keep watching it when it's on AMC or I watch my dvd of it.

Best bit is Dr. Loomis at the end, when it seems he's had enough of everything and is ready to give up the little girl. Then he beats Michael Myers with a 2x4 and screams DIE! over and over.
