High off of the glorious fumes of Exit Through the Gift Shop, I went looking for more films about culture-jammers and street artists. The closest I could come was this documentary about graffiti culture and taggers. I'm not nearly as interested in taggers as I am street artists (I can never, for the life of me, read the writing), though I recognize that the line between them can be a fine one, but the film's biggest problem is it's lack of focus. It follows the lives of seven different people who's approach to graffiti is sometimes different (the most interesting character being the man who's obsessed with taking down graffiti in his area), but mostly you hear the same thing, where their obsession with tagging has taken over their life.

The problem is none of the characters have any arc. Where they are before the movie started is where they are after it ended. So most interviews devolve into contradictory half-assed street philosophies, giving little insight into who they are and how it connects to what they do. Also, 10 minutes of a narrator explaining "The Game" or it's history would have done wonders to get you into their world. As it is, unless you're already familiar with it all, a lot of the jargon and references will be lost on you.

It's on Netflix Instant. If you like tagging and graffiti culture, it's worth a look I guess, just don't expect much depth.
