I like this (Brody is a great choice for a modern day remake), but it kills me because I was just working on my own Sleepy Hollow recast with the same director! (circa '96 with Elias Koteas as Crane)

The remake starring Reynolds is going to happen weather we won't it to or not. Might as well give it a good cast.

Alright, this is gonna be pretty ambitious for me. Not a lot of huge stars, but I feel like that better reflects the ensemble nature. Another tremendously underrated movie, in my book.

THE RIGHT STUFF (2012)  Directed by Kathryn Bigelow (Alternate: Michael Mann)

Joaquin Phoenix as Chuck Yeager

joaquin_phoenix-5194-650x487.jpg "It takes a special kind of man to volunteer for a suicide mission, especially one that's on TV."

James Marsden (without hair)  as John Glenn

10.jpg "Straighten up and fly right."

Jason Clarke as Gus Grissom

jason_clarke.jpg "Star voyager Gus Grissom. I kinda like the sound of that."

Matt Ross as Alan Shepard

gsr9.jpg "Request permission to relieve bladder."

Margo Martindale as Pancho Barnes

mbjst.jpg "You have to die, sweetie."

Tim Blake Nelson as Jack Ridley / The Narrator

Adrianne Palicki as Glennis Yeager

tyracollette.jpg"They don't spend a goddamned thing teaching you how to be the fearless wife of a fearless test pilot."

I could probably go on and cast the rest of the various astronauts, wives, and assorted bit parts (It's a 3+ hour long movie, y'all), but I think I've covered the major players here.

I'm going to have disagree with some of those picks. I don't think Mikkelsen is phyiscally right for the role, Carrano isn't Scottish, and Hendricks is too young; Rachel is well into her 40's.

I dont know in Valhalla Rising Mikkelsen was physical imposing, same as goes for Pusher, and only other person I can really picture is Perlman but honestly I dont see him really fitting. Hendricks isn't that young and feel she would fit plus remakes dont necessarily have to be exact in fact they shouldnt. oh and Racheal was a problem I admit but I was thinking of someone that could seen as standing toe to toe with anyone and Carrano came to mind plus remember Ramirez was originally played by Connery who isn't really spanish either. I could see Blunt being a good replacement as she was sup[pose to originally play the Black Widow. But all in all I stand by my casting especially since I feel it fits as a Nicholas Refn Winding retelling.

When you cast Mikkelsen I was thinking of Casino Royale. Also my casting was trying to match the original as best as I good. I doubt the remake will, which is why it won't get my money.

Not sure if this would work but it's first person to come to mind but, how about Hugh Laurie he just seems to embody the role perfectly if not that maybe John Cleese. Also I guess the story would be about the Falklands instead of Iraq, which honestly would be funnier.

And I'll play "recast Highlander going by what we've been given already" with you.  I'm also assuming that while this will be darker, it will retain a lot of the fun (and ridiculousness) of the original...even in the casting:

HIGHLANDER (2014)

Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo

Produced by Justin Lin

Screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg and Chris Morgan

Story by Gregory Widen

"Connor MacLeod" - Ryan Reynolds

"Brenda Wyatt" - Rashida Jones

"Sunda Kastagir" - Michael Jai White

"Aman Fasil" - Mark Strong

mark-strong.jpg?d=600

"Angus MacLeod" - Christopher Lambert

and

"Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez" - Arnold Schwarzenegger

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTBfZW5dn7hjxfQI2GmN7M7dOg5DKBXRfYVMx_dAJDbCEIXK4Tj87DoG2Sf

What just as fun as a Scotsman playing an Egyptian with a Spanish name?  An Austrian doing the same.  I'm dead fucking serious.  Arnold would knock this out of the park.

Also, as much as I love Liam Neeson, he never needs to play another mentor role again.

I'm cool with Schwarzenegger as Ramierz. Let him have fun with the role, and I think he would be good.

I demand more Highlander recasts!

Then a HIGHLANDER recast you shall have, sir!

Directed by NEIL MARSHALL, because who the fuck else, right?

Connor MacLeod: JAMES McAVOY

mcavoy.jpg

Brenda Wyatt: ABBIE CORNISH

0_62_Abbie_Cornish_320.jpg

The Kurgan: RORY McCANN

Thumb_Rory.jpg

Heather MacLeod: JESSICA BROWN FINDLAY

1120330_jessica_brown_findlay.jpg

Rachel Ellenstein: GEENA DAVIS

1113_img.jpg

and as always, the only choice for Ramirez remains ANTONIO BANDERAS

haywire-2012-relativity-media-antonio-banderas-66796.jpg

CASTING NOTES: Why McAvoy? Look, I know part of the appeal of the original HIGHLANDER was how fast and loose it played with accents, nationalities and the like but I'd like this version to be a little more faithful in some respects. And, well, McAvoy's a Scot, so there you go. But I like the fact that he's not necessarily the warrior type at first glance - you should be worried for him when he first enters the fray - and that he reveals himself as a masterful fighter despite his slight frame. (Remember the climactic duel in ROB ROY, and how foppish Tim Roth showed himself to be pretty fucking dangerous with his rapier against Liam Neeson's more powerful but lumbering broadsword attacks? Nothing's cooler than an adversary who's easily underestimated.) Plus McAvoy has an 'old soul' quality that I think would work well for the role, especially when contrasted with his fresh-faced looks.

Cornish is my go-to gal for many roles, mainly because she can convey braininess and strength without being given a set of Tara Reid's eyeglasses and some cheesy "My way till payday" dialogue. She looks like someone who could have written a book about ancient metallurgy! And her natural forthrightness would complement the slight elusiveness and enigmatic quality I think McAvoy would give Connor.

McCann: well, shit, son, haven't you seen GAME OF THRONES? You just don't fuck with the Hound. Plus McCann revealed himself capable of subtle, unnerving menace in the penultimate episode of GoT S2, particularly in his last scene with Sansa. Would he hit the giddy heights of Clancy's Kurgan? Can't really say but I get the feeling Rory would make his Kurgan a fearsome, unstoppable Terminator-style adversary.

Jessica Brown Findlay is straight-up gorgeous and I want to see more of her onscreen. And I cast Geena Davis because she looks like an older version of Connor's first great love, Heather. I get the feeling MacLeod wanted Rachel in his life for so long because of that resemblance (never acting on it, of course). Having the blonde Cornish as his new love indicates a break with the past and a new beginning - visual storytelling, I can do it!

The dash, elan and mischief of Banderas is a natural fit for Ramirez. I want it, and I will not be denied. Nor will I be denied the chance to hear him say "How revolting!" when told what haggis is made of.

This is my HIGHLANDER recast. There are many like it but this one is mine.

Who wants to participate in a massive and silly undertaking?

I propose this:  recasting all 22 Bond films, contemporary and gender-reversed.

First, we need a female Bond for each era.  The requirements:  must be UK or Australian and must be roughly early 30’s (sorry Emily Blunt) through mid 40’s (sorry Kristen Scott Thomas).  Here’s my first runthrough, but this is far from definitive.

James (“Jaime”?) Bond:

Connery Bond –  Eva Green (the template.  Can do both serious and playful. Looks like she might smack you around a bit)

Lazenby Bond –  Rose Byrne (competent but slightly out of their depth Aussie)

Moore Bond –  Minnie Driver (lighter tone, kind of hammy)

Dalton Bond –  Kate Beckinsale (more intense, humorless)

Brosnan Bond – Lena Headey (dry, sometimes remote, can toss off disdainful one-liners)

Craig Bond –  Rhona Mitra (no-nonsense, hard-edged, often emotionless)

Who’s in?

So we're not casting a female Connery Bond in the 1960s, but a female Connery type in the present day?

Oh yeah, and isn't Eva Green French?

Hmm.  According to her Wiki, she is French born but went to an English-speaking school in Paris.  She kind of occupies that French/English Twilight Zone a la Charlotte Gainsbourg, but for the "sanctity" of the role, I guess she should be DQ'ed.

Rachel Weisz, perhaps?

I think it would be more fun to cast actors who were contemporaries of the films. Maybe Elizabeth Taylor as female Connery? Just an idea.

No Elizabeth Taylor is a horrible pick plus she's American. I'd pick Dianna Rigg. Pretty obvious honestly she basically was the female bond in the Avengers, even give her a few scenes in the catsuit!

I'll think of more later one that poped in my head for the female replacement for Moore would be Helen Mirren.

Claudia Black would have to be one.  Most likely Dalton or Craig.

The location of Hill Valley California was kept, as was the iconic DeLorean as the basis of the time machine (the explanation used in the film is identical to the original, that it's unique all stainless steel exterior allows for superior flux displacement).

Set in 2015,  Marty accidentally travels back to November 5th, 1992. At the Enchantment Under The Sea Dance, Marty performs Eminem's Lose Yourself, impressing students (and angering the faculty) with his unexpected white boy mastery of hip hop. "This is an oldie, well, it's an oldie where I come from..."

Alan Silvestri returns to score, with Zemeckis, Spielberg and Bob Gale acting as executive producers.

Karloff as The Krugen is a great casting, but I don't agree with Flynn as Connor. I see your logic of casting a great swashbuckler, but I see Macleod as someone rough around the edges. May I suggest Humphrey Bogart as The Highlander?

Also can't really see Rathbone as Ramirez not charming enough and just lacks something, tough to put in words just can't see him in the role. Now for a replacement what about Conrad Veidt. Oh and I agree about Flynn totally wrong for Macloed. But so is Bogart he 'd be alight in the non-action scenes but can't see him swinging a sword and would look awkward. How about Clark Gable. He's kind dark around the edges and could do the fun sword scenes convincingly, and at first isn't obvious but as you think about it really could be awesome.
