Just to be clear, I do not under any circumstances support rebooting the X-Files. I want X-Files III: The Adventure Continues with David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson getting top billing.

So this is purely just idle musing, but how about...

Joseph Gordon Levitt for Fox Mulder

and..

Anne Hathaway as Dana Catherine Scully?

I think JGL could really sell Mulder's sense of humor and obsessive quest for THE TRUTH.

I hesitate to cast anyone else, since Chris Carter was always of the belief the show's universe was more believable when peopled by relative unknowns.

I did three seasons of Justified re-cast a few pages back as standalone films (Peckinpah on the first 2, Walter Hill on the 3rd.) With the fourth season winding down, I wanted to cast that. Possible that I may need to add to it, but with only 2 eps left, probably not. I'm also taking this opportunity to re-cast some of the my earlier re-casting.

Inspired by this recent bit of news. (I know this isn't technically a recast since Kubrick never actually made the movie, but I figure this would be more at home here than anywhere else.) This cast assumes that the production (movie, TV mini-series, whatever) hews pretty closely to this 1969 draft screenplay.

Django Unchained

I admired DiCaprio for even trying, but I couldn't quite buy him as Calvin Candie. Something about it was just off.

My suggestion would be to cast Christian Bale. Seriously, check out his amazing villain turn in Shaft. His delivery of the line "Homeboy's got rhythm" feels so much more unnerving and hateful than DiCaprio managed. Bale has the skill set to play a world class racist villain with a capital 'V'. Plus it would be the perfect pairing to team him with Sam Jackson. A Shaft reunion.

He's the right actor at the right age for that role. I think I laid out a pretty compelling case.

Look, I think Bale is probably the best actor of his generation. He's not right for everything, but why settle for less when Bale fits this part to a 't'? Bale's villain turn in Shaft is so much fun and so punchably evil he seems perfect for Calvin Candie, and it would be an amazing serendipity to reteam him with Sam Jackson given their roles in Django and past history with exploitation cinema reboots.

Additionally I'd have cast Will Smith as Django and let him get Tarantino to rewrite the script with a bigger focus on Django like Smith wanted. The film is unbalanced in it's current form. Waltz doesn't quite to manage to justify the script's fixation on his character, as charming as he is. If Smith wanted to tone down the violence or handling of race though I'd say no and let Jamie Foxx stay since Foxx did a good job even if he was handicapped out of the gate in trying to own the screen given Waltz seemingly having staked out a claim to most of it. Smith's more muscular charisma could at least have potentially battled Waltz back a bit.

I'm sure he would have been good in the role, I just like giving you a hard time about mentioning Bale so much.

Good question.

In the early '70s, Oliver Stone, a Vietnam veteran and NYU film school alum writes an original screenplay about two lifelong friends -- a disillusioned ex-Navy SEAL and an idealistic Berkeley grad -- who become Southern California's top pot dealers and are forced to make their way south of the border when their mutual girlfriend is kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel.

The screenplay manages, miraculously, to make its way into the hands of Sam Peckinpah, who decides it would be perfect for his next film . . .

GAME OF THRONES - THE ROCK OPERA

Okay, I'm sure everyone has seen the King Joffrey Bieber photo-shops. They got me and my friends discussing an all musician version of Game Of Thrones. Obviously, it's a massive cast, so I'm not going to go for everyone, but I thought of a few cool choices. Anyone else please jump in with suggestions. Maybe give reasons why (and stick with living musicians at their current age). And obviously, no spoilers.

Joffrey: Duh

Ned Stark: Bruce Springsteen

Noble, honorable, working class. Has a hugely devoted peoples. Winter Is Coming sounds like the title of a Springsteen song. Plus, Winterfell seems about as pleasant as New Jersey.

Catelyn Stark: Patti Scialfa

Because she's Bruce Springsteen's wife, a strong performer herself, and look at her.

Tywin Lannister: David Bowie

Because he's the smartest guy in whatever room he's in, and he's got that tyrannical, royal air about him.

Cersie: Madonna

Evil, over the hill, not half as smart as she thinks.

Littlefinger: Nick Cave

Intelligent, sleazy, sinister. The guy I kind of want to win in the end.

The White Walkers: The Rolling Stones

Because they've been around since the dawn of time and they are almost impossible to kill.

The often spoke of, never seen Mad King is obviously Micheal Jackson. Even though they look and act nothing alike, I think Varys should be played by Ted Nugent, since they both have no dick.

I'm looking forward to more from the rest of you people.

Robert Baratheon: Steve Van Zandt

Old friend of Springsteen, more success with him than alone.

Tyrion Lannister: Prince

Tiny, surprisingly popular with the ladies.

Jaime Lannister: Rick Allen

For obvious reasons.

Khal Drogo: Glenn Danzig

Has long hair, gets very angry easily.

I think Danzig would work better as The Hound, since everyone kind of hates, but still respects him.

I was considering Rick Allen for Jamie, but figured someone would do it for me.
