Although I made it as a joke, I think this could make an awesome movie, just imagine an ultra-bloody shower scene with fun music powerfully playing in the background.

"Splish Splash" by Bobby Darin, natch.

So apparently Jason Reitman loves doing this as much as we do, if not much more. He's been doing live readings of famous screenplays in LA starring lots of his famous friends, and they sound just hilarious. He's gearing up for an all-black Reservoir Dogs reading this month, already sold out. Here's the current cast, still filling up.

Mr Orange - Cuba Gooding jr.

Mr Pink - Anthony Mackie

Mr Blonde - Terrence Howard

Nice Guy Eddie - Anthony Anderson

And of course, there's also the famous Princess Bride reading from a few months back. If you haven't heard of that, check out this incredible cast he assembled.

Wesley - Paul Rudd

Buttercup - Mindy Kaling

Inigo Montoya - Goran Visjnic

Humperdink - Cary Elwes

Vizzini - Patton Oswalt

Fezzik - Bill Faggerbakke

Miracle Max - Kevin Pollack

Count Rugen - Nick Kroll

Grandfather - Rob Reiner

Grandson - Fred Savage

Tommy-five-tone and I have decided that Billy Dee Williams* needs to play Mr. White role in that RD reading, with Keith David** as Joe and Dave Chapelle as Mr. Brown. Michael Jai White as the DJ.

*Alternates: Denzel, Lawrence Fishburne

**Alternates: Glynn Turman, Wendell Pierce.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1945)

Humphrey Bogart - Eddie Valiant

Boris Karloff - Judge Doom

Joan Crawford - Dolores

Edward G. Robinson - RK Maroon

Henry Travers - Marvin Acme

James Cagney - Baby Herman (voice)

Lauren Bacall - Jessica Rabbit (voice)

Mel Blanc - Roger Rabbit (voice)

Most of that was super obvious, but still.

sure he's old, but he's still robust and anthropologists aren't noted for their youthful athleticism.  Plus Spielberg offered him the part before Sam Neil.

Well since I made Hammond black, I had to follow suit with the grand kids...don't know many young black children who are competent actors, so I took the easy road.  And Jesus Christ, for child actors they really are not that bad.  No worse than other child actors their age.  The Smith family seems to have this weird stigma with geeks.

In fairness, Jaden was effective in The Karate Kid.  But "Whip My Hair" is an executable offense.

The problem I have with the Smith kids is I find it impossible to buy them as anything but the wildly entitled children of mega celebrities. The idea of them playing some kind of dinosaur battling hackers seems abysmal.

I find this statement incredibly biased considering many many celebrities come from some sort of family legacy in the business, or had a leg up because of family connections (you'd really be surprised).  The talented ones earn it of course, but I don't see why Jaden's fair level of talent should be excluded.  Willow is about as talented as your average Disney Club member.  Again I fail to see why the Smith kids garner so much scrutiny.

Well, yeah, it's biased, and it's a bias transferred from Will Smith himself, who I can never buy as a character other than Will Smith, Movie Star. Its kind of interesting to see the direct transfer of power, like a kingship in the middle ages or something, even if it does position the rest of us as a bunch of fucking serfs. But that's really the most positive thing I can say about it. Now I haven't seen Karate Kid, because it doesn't interest me, but I definitely don't feel it's incumbent upon to like the younger Smiths based on nothing but a 'fair level of talent'. I haven't closed my heart to them or anything, but I think it's fair to say they've got more to prove than most.

Nepotism can often suck too. I saw a Broadway production of Chicago with an ensemble of singers and dancers who'd spent their lives working on their craft and starring Rita Wilson as Roxie. She looked like what she was: a celebrity's wife enjoying her summer vacation, and it brought the whole production to its knees. Legacy stars should be held to a higher standard.

Fair enough.

But did you know the only reason Gwyneth Paltrow has a career is because her father was friends with Spielberg?  Paltrow went to a screening of Silence Of The Lambs with Spielberg and Kate Kapshaw.  On the drive back, Spielberg saw this incredibly disturbed look on Paltrow's face from her reaction to the movie.  He was shooting Hook at the time, and her face made him think of the part of Wendy's young daughter.  He asked her if she wanted the part, and viola!  No audition, no struggle to be in high profile movies, just an instant part in a Spielberg film because he was friendly with her.  Similar scenarios are repeated time and time again in the business...it happens more than it doesn't.

Jaden and Willow are children, their career is just getting started, who knows what they're capable of...they're certainly not terrible, and even Morgan Freeman was once a young actor, whos talent grew over time and with maturity.  Will Smith gave them a leg up, yes, but that's just like nearly every other famous actor.  The only difference is their father is the most high profile man working in movies right now, so they're under a larger microscope, but there is nothing different going on underneath.
