Killer Elite (1991)

Directed by John McTiernan

Produced by Joel Silver

Joel Silver snatched the rights to Ranulph Fiennes soon to be published controversial novel The Feather Men. In order to attract American audiences, he had the story changed from it's London setting to New York, and the characters became former Navy Seals.

Knowing Joel Silver like we do, there's no doubt it would be very 'Rock you like a Hurricane'.

There would even be a Scorpions song written for the movie.

Good call on Statham over Hardy, boyo. I'd actually go with someone like Joseph Gordon Levitt as the twirpy Ed Exley over Fassbender (who'd make a smashing Bud White, himself).

JGL would rock as Ed Exley. I wish I'd thought of it. Dat Fass isn't that much of a beefcake. Bud is a guy who you'd write off as an idiot at first sight.

Liam Neeson asking you-know-who "Who's your valediction boyo?" would be an awesome sight on screen. Playing that scene out with Neeson and the other actor I chose in my mind is what inspired me to do the cast.

Yeah, Neeson would be perfect as the "good guy" gone terribly bad. Great call there.

Haven't read this whole thread, but has anyone done current blockbusters with all-black casts?

(I haven't seen these movies, so I have no idea which characters are in them)

THE HOBBIT

Bilbo: Jeffrey Wright

Gandalf: Bernie Casey

Aragorn: Jamie Foxx

Sauron: Isaach De Bankole

OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

Oz: Terrence Howard

Good Witch: Garcelle Beauvais

Evil Witch: Sanaa Latham

WATCHMEN

Dr. Manhattan: Denzel

Ozymandias: Will Smith

Nite Owl: Idris Elba

Silk Spectre: Vivica Fox

Former Silk Spectre: Oprah

The Comedian: Eddie Murphy

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Spider-Man: Donald Glover

Gwen Stacy: Meagan Good

Curt Connors: Forest Whitaker

Uncle Ben: Harry Belafonte

HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. THE MUSICAL

Hansel: Sean Combs

Gretel: Halle Berry

Witch: Janet Jackson

MAN OF STEEL

Superman: Idris Elba

Lex Luthor: Michael K. Williams

Kerry Washington: Lois

Braniac: Jacky Ido

I dunno, I was just spitballing things, drinking a little. But yeah, I would personally see every single one of these movies.

...and they'd all have been directed by Sidney Lumet.

Not a favorite movie by any stretch, but possibly a context that would have made it good. Some omissions are present, I'm sure.

Your spot-on casting aside, I think that real life mental case Montgomery Clift would've made a smashing Rorschach in 1955.

The potential for a classic Hollywood Watchmen is pretty endless. Hell, you could probably confine yourself to Welles' Mercury Theatre folks and get something perfect. Clift is a great choice for Rorschach. Cotten could be scary and sympathtic at the same time (Shadow of a Doubt), which is why I picked him.

And while Kirk (Ace In The Hole) Douglas is easily the best guy for The Comedian, Burt Lancaster in Sweet Smell Of Success mode would be a close second. Young Charles Bronson would be another good Rorschach too.

Both Lancaster (in J.J. Hunsecker mode) and Wells (in Harry Lime Mode) crossed my mind for Ozy, actually. But in the context of the time, I had to go with Heston because he was basically the face of the Bible at the time, and subverting that persona would be delicious.

I wish I had a time machine so that I could get that ball rolling. And, you know, buy MacLaine a drink.
