Still a disturbing lack of color in the 2012 Star Wars, and you recast the only black man as a white guy.

I haven't got it all worked out yet, but I'm thinking of doing a John Carter movie in the 50s with Charlton Heston as John Carter and maybe Sophia Loren as Dejah Thoris. I'm torn between having John Ford or Cecil B. DeMille directing the movie. The Mars scenes would be done on location in Monument Valley, UT, which would be right in Ford's wheelhouse, but I also want the epic spectacle of a DeMille movie. Ray Harryhausen would naturally do the special effects. I'll try to flesh out the idea later.

John Carter Of Mars in the 1950s?

Your choices are:

Fred M. Wilcox Forbidden Planet

Richard Fleischer Disney's 20 000 Leagues Under The Sea

George Pal The Time Machine

Richard Fleischer The Vikings

Don Chaffey Jason & The Argonauts

Richard Fleischer Fantastic Voyage

Byron Haskin War Of The Worlds, Robinson Crusoe On Mars

Richard muthafuckin' Fleischer

Now I'm sad that the Craig-era Bonds have done away with the Q character. The idea of Matt Smith doing the requisite gadget walkthrough is fucking brilliant.

I believe Q is going to be in Skyfall. The new Q will be a lot younger.

Five years after that, for the 4D Implant Experience release, C-3PO is re-rendered to resemble Michael Fassbender.

If the guy did 20,000 Leagues AND The Vikings, you have to use him. Seriously, anyone who enjoyed John Carter ought to love those two.

...and with that, Kirk Douglas would tear it up as John Carter.

Sophia Loren as Dejah Thoris.

Guys, cut it out with your classy John Carter. I want my Roger Corman produced version starring Tom Selleck as John Carter and Caroline Munro as Dejah Thoris.

I think you mean your 1970s AIP version with Doug McClure as Carter and Munro as Thoris.

I was about to bow to Game of Thrones' inevitability, but that Murder By Death is pretty sweet, too.

That was considered.

And Game of Thrones could still have had Wilko Johnson:

wilko-johnson-corbis-530-85.jpg

My initial thought was to do Thrones as a big, tacky "ABC Novel for Television" like Rich Man, Poor Man or The Winds of War.  So I was thinking Peter Strauss as Ned and Nick Nolte as Robert and Richard Chamberlain as Littlefinger.  But after seeing Arjen's BBC version, I just didn't have the heart to continue.

Dude came Back in the Night, for certain.

Awesome! Well done. I was thinking of 70s Richard Harris for Ned Stark and Orson Welles as the king, but I can't argue with any of your choices. Oliver Reed and Julie Christie are perhaps the most inspired.
