Nice. Sounds like every teen fantasy book on the market, complete with Campbellian overtones!

There's only one production that could do this proper. And that's pre-Full-Moon Empire!

 

Think TROLL meets OBLIVION!

 

Or as a Halmi-produced miniseries  (ala DINOTOPIA) on the Hallmark channel. But I wanna see puppets dammit!
