Joshua Miller, The Running Man, is one of my...Favorite films of, Arnold S.  Not only was he...Fantastic as Ben Richards, whom must have been named after 2 of the stalwarts of, Marvel's Fantastic Four, he was humorous, caused numerous deaths, and you wanted him to...Kill, Killian, portrayed so, Malevolently by the terrific, Richard Dawson as the...EEEEEEEEvil Villain!   Also a great performance as Arnold's Gal Pal was the...Lovely Maria Concheta Alonso lalso ooking quite curvey in...Yellow Spandex!  One more thing...Eraser (1996) with the rail guns, and the beautiful Vanessa Williams, was a great...Swan Song, as opposed to all the films of Arnold's after that seminal action classic.

Great article, man. I remember not liking TRM when it was first released, thinking it was ‘too silly’ – then again, I was twelve at the time and took my Schwarzenegger movies very seriously.

I revisited it last year and fell in love with it: Arnie’s quippage and pronunciation powers were at their peak (“Vere should we go... Someplace wam!”), Jesse Ventura steals the show and the movie has the sheer genius to envisage a revolutionary army run by Dweezil Zappa and Mick Fleetwood.

An oft-neglected classic IMHO.

There once was a time when I would have said this and Total Recall were on par, quality-wise. Oh how wrong(and young) I was. Still a lot of fun though.

Still hoping someone makes an awesome film close to the source material, but it may have lost most of it's bite over the years and years of reality TV and parodies of reality TV.

I have always had a soft spot for this movie. The soft spot may be in my brain but it is a soft spot none the less.

Lamely, in high school I turned against Arnold, embarrassed by the fact that I used to like him - in particular in THE RUNNING MAN and TOTAL RECALL - as though my fandom had been a folly of youth. Of course, as is always the case, the biggest youth follies generally happen when you're a teenager. When I revisted the films again after college I realized I had better taste when I was 10 than I did when I was 17.

This and Commando make for one hell of a cheesetastic fun time at the movies; sure, TRM is dumb and corny, but it just too damn fun and charming not to enjoy everytime.

Still, I'm amazed this one hasnt been remade, more faithfully to the book this time.

Also, i still love that Sub Zero was played by a Proffesor, a profesor i tell you.

ryoken, No need to remake...The Running Man.  Some actors are just...irreplaceable.  I would never see a remake of a...John Wayne movie either!  An example of being wary of being too close to a book.  The Beastmaster!  An...Awesome, film, but was turned into a, lousy tv series, that somehow lasted...3 seasons.  Apparantly the author, wanted a...faithful adaption, and boy did Andre Norton get it.  The film, took the title, but supposedly ignored most of the book.  The Beastmaster, is...Clearly, Marc Singer's Best film.  Oops!  I got off topic. I could not imagine a remake of a Schwarzenegger Film.

The Running Man AND Beastmaster in the same thread? I have a weird Velveeta taste in my mouth and i'm starting to get dizzy.....

I remember first seeing a really chopped up version as the Sunday Night Movie on ABC back in 1990 that my parents taped for me, and liked it, but over the years, it's really shot up on my list of favorite Arnold movies. It just may be in my top 5, just like duke fleed's. Plus it's really relevant now with reality tv being a phenomenon as it has been for the past 10 years.

Also Arnold has so many great one liners.

Showed the movie to my friend back in August, and he'd never seen it before. He loved the shit out of it. The Running Man is greatness.

Really surprised by this. Can't recall a whole lot from the book (read it when I was a teenager), but I do recall him flying a plane into a building while holding his stomach to keep his intestines from falling out. Always wanted to see that onscreen!

Yeah, that ending's probably not going to fly anymore (no pun intended).

There's something in the rest, but I don't think anybody would keep accurate to the book if they're planning on something more than a relatively cheap indie type movie.
