TOTAL RECALL REMAKE: THE BEST MIND-FUCK YET?

Remake loses Mars, and skips 3D.

Not really looking forward to this remake, but no Mars is interesting (even though that's the best part of the original), and at least they're not coming up with PG-13 watered down versions of stuff from the original. It seems they're going mostly by the book, and this can just be that version of the movie that is more faithful to the book, but we all know the original is better. Same thing with Manhunter vs. Red Dragon.

I hope they come to their senses and just make this a big violent opus. Then again, it's status as a tentpole film pretty much guarantees a PG-13 rating.

Good. Going further away from the Arnold one is the best thing they can do. Might as well change the title, at this rate.

It's a movie I'm down to watch, my only doubt is Wiseman, but hey if the script is good...

This so did not need to be remade , my fear is, with True Grit setting a precedent hollywood will start remaking classics under the auspices of hewing closer to the literary source material to dodge accusations of unoriginality , if this is mildly sucessful can we look forward to a Blade Runner remake that sticks closer to Philip K Dicks original story ? do we want one ? I think not .

True Grit worked because of the keen creative minds behind it ie. the Coens whose considerations were artistic rather then monetary , I very much doubt this or any subsequent remakes will be able to boast the same .

It was already a tv series. No one ever found Total Recall sacred.

While Len Wiseman still does nothing to excite me, the fact it's shooting in May kind of brings the fact that Colin Farrell is starring in another PDK Flick into startling focus, and yes, I'm kind of excited. I hope this talk about vertical cities means we'll be getting to see a big budget portrayal of an arcology

As for Mars.. it's been done. Can't top Verhoeven, so it's cool to see that they're going for a MINORITY REPORT type feel instead

Len Wiseman pretty much ruins any good elements this remake has.  Everything is filtered through the director.  Not interested.

Count me as strangely unoffended too. Love the original, but it's just not one of those 'sacred' films that can be cheapened in that way (And I love my flicks with machinegunning midget hookers, let me tell you)

Len Wiseman has that rare ability to be so bland, his output isn't even interesting enough to be offensive. Even 'Live Free...' was so utterly characterless I couldn't muster the passion to feel offence. Glad Farrell's all excited, but considering his career the last few years, he should be. Waiting for the 'MOI NAME IS NAWT QUAID, YEH BOLLIX!' gifs to do the Internet rounds with great anticipation.

I don't necessarily have a problem with another take on the concept. I was always intrigued by the Cronenberg version that never happened, and much as I love the original I'm not sure a balls out action movie was the best vehicle for the ideas it was dealing with. But Verhoven's is such a singular movie that I'd feel more comfortable with it if they'd give it a new title. And got someone other than Wiseman to make it.

Spierig Bros! DAYBREAKERS seemd to fit in the scifi/horror/action/"biting" social commentary sized hole Verheoven left.
