I know shots from space are nothing new, but these are particularly good:

One of the astronauts on the ISS right now is the husband of Rep Gifford, I hope the beautiful sight that is our small blue planet is of some comfort to him in this difficult time

Great shots, BTW. I have the entire 20th centurys worth of NAT GEO sitting in my living room (except for like 1900 to 1908 and then a few stray issues from the 90s), and there is an awesome issue with an ORBIT cover story you might want to check out sometime. Beautiful images

These are incredibly photos and all, and I really hate to do this... but you have over a thousand National Geographics in your living room?

Yup. Stacked into the form of a giant cube

Great photos. Makes the world seem smaller and innocent.

Stunning photos, utterly gorgeous. And I know "pretty photos" isn't a good enough reason to go into space, but the fact that we lack the necessary machinery to get our guys up into space (even if it's not really "space" and is just reaaaaaaaaaaaally high up there) just depresses the hell out of me. We, the nation who put people on another world...sigh...

Has anyone sent this link to Sherri Shepard?  Because she wasn't sure that the world was round, you know.

There aren't enough superlatives. Just amazing, humbling pictures.

They also immediately made me think of this:

The one of France, England and the Aurora lights over the North Pole is amazing. Seriously considering printing some of these.

I love the accompanying line to photo 10, 'Space is cool…but, the Earth is a raging explosion of life in a vast sea of darkness'.

Absolutely gorgeous photos.

and that Carl Sagan video is so good, it makes you realise just how small we all are

Those photo's are just breath-taking.

Here's some more great photos. The volcano that was the centrepiece for You Only Live Twice, Mount Shinmoe Dake in Kagoshima, Japan has just erupted...

Holy shit RD, what the fuck is that lightning doing in there?!? It's not fearsome enough just being so hot it can melt God?

Apparently the static buildup caused by all the ash can cause VOLCANO LIGHTNING which is probably the most epic shit ever.  There's some great shots of it from that Iceland volcano that exploded last year and shut down European air travel.

Here's a couple links to Flickr of pics that I remember faving from last year. Really incredible stuff - if you do a search on there you'll find even more.

This guy has several on his page

Really cool shot here
