THE GIRL WITH THE ASS TATTOO

David Fincher has little interest in the awards and accolades currently being heaped at his latest film’s feet. Instead, he’s knee deep in production for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and has no problem saying his last film was a mere “movie” rather than a “film.” All of this comes from a great interview … Continue reading

Aaaaand yep. Now I'm interested.

Mara looks pretty ghastly as Lisbeth, at least in that picture.  Makes Nomi Rapace look comparatively glamorous.

Still can't muster up much enthusiasm for this incredibly superfluous project yet.  Maybe once I see a trailer.

Unless we're willing to throw every cover song ever done under the bus as superfluous, that complaint is still sorta baffling. Long as the new film puts a different tint on things, which Fincher's obviously going for, I see no issues.

While we're on the subject, goddammit, Let Me In was great.

They're completely changing the ending? Okay, now I am interested. Rooney Mara looks a little better than I expected. She's closer to Lisbeth's age (according to the books) than Noomi Raplace was.

The remake won't be superfluous if it actually turns out to be any good.

I still don't understand Hollywood's need to do a remake even though the original is only about 2 years old, and Noomi Rapace was a scene-stealer as Lisbeth. I've seen Rooney Mara's recent look after she stepped out for a publicity event for TSN, and I don't think she looks the part imo. Of course, David Fincher is a good director and may surpise us like he did for TSN, but I still don't think the remake should've been greenlighted in the first place.

I know little to nothing about the books. The only reason I have any interest in this movie is because Fincher's involved and even then I'd rather see him working on something else. That being said, Rooney Mara looks like a complete bad ass.

Did anyone read that bit in the W piece about Fincher saying he has an R-rated, 3D animated film in mind? Was he just fucking around?

Well, he's been trying to make Heavy Metal for awhile now. Haven't read the article, but maybe that's what he's discussing? Or that Goon adaptation?

Yeah, yeah, Let Me In way surpassed my expectations, and yeah, yeah, Fincher is the man, but having both read the book and seen the Swedish film within the last 12 months, I'm just a wee bit burned out on the Dragon Tattoo.  I hope Fincher can change it enough that it remains interesting.   We'll see.

I really liked the first two book (currently working on the third) and the first movie. Fincher's involvement is what had me really interested in this version. I'm more interested about the possible sequels. The Swedish version of The Girl Who Played with Fire was a big let down and felt like it could have been so much more. While I haven't seen Hornet's Nest yet, I head it's even a step down from Fire. As long as Fincher remains true to the essence of the characters, I'm excited to see what he comes up with.

Hasn't he been trying to get The Goon made?

Rooney Mara looks really skinny in a Keira Knightly way, but the "BIG" scene that she's in sounds interesting. Not every day you see a woman raping a man with a dildo on the big screen.

I haven't seen the original, and it's on Netflix Instant, so I've got to see it sometime, despite not being that interested in it.

I've only read the first book, and not seen any of the films, but I thought that the core mystery was one of the few things that actually worked about Dragon Tattoo. Hopefully, Fincher's wholesale changes focus on things like de-Mary Sue-ifyiing  Blomkvist.

Fincher has been trying to get a new animated 3-D Heavy Metal anthology film financed for the last couple of years.  James Cameron and Zack Snyder had planned to direct segments for it.

That W article really is a great read, by the way.

Oh, David Fincher, you never fail to make me happy. Having your audition be the revenge rape scene. I really hope the audition tapes find their way out in the public sometime. Maybe as a special feature in the bluray.

And holy shit, Mara looks fucking gaunt as hell.

I honestly couldn't believe that's the same woman from The Social Network.

Color me intrigued at how Fincher is handling this.

I am so happy to hear that Fincher and Zaillian are refusing to be slavishly faithful to the source material and have the balls to change whatever they think can be improved upon in hopes of making it all their own. Plus, it's not like the novels are sacred, so I'm glad they're changing things up.

Pictures do nothing for me and neither does Rooney Mara. Good luck David. I thought Benjamin Button was your only misfire but it seems like you make one of those every other movie of late.

Fuck this movie. I have absolutely no interest in it at all if they change the original ending/characters. As it was, there was no reason for me to be excited about this pointless remake.

Seriously? He's done one after Button (a Great Work, with all caps, at that) and this is barely less than a year form being released. I'm not going to jump in here and say how stupid it is to whine about remakes (and when they take an overrated film/book series and give it to a great director, the complaining is even more baseless), but when you've seen nothing but a few stills and a quick reveal interview and call it a misfire, that's pure internet hyperbole.

Of course, the worse bit of Internet behavior to come out of this is the people screaming that they don't want to fuck Mara in those pictures, it's gross and thus the movie will be awful. Because they don't find the lead attractive. That's missing the point of the series and character completely, absolutely disgusting behavior too.
