 Premiering Jan 17  9:00PM

Alright so does anyone give a shit about this? I know it's not going to hold a candle to the original BBC series but what the hell. The only thing the remake might one up them on is effects. Love the BBC version but very little werewolf action due to budget.

I never watched the original, but I do like the cast and it has a former writer/producer from Supernatural working on it. So I'm going to give it a shot.

 Didn't know that part.

There's room for some improvement, but I liked it well enough.

Alright that wasn't horrible. However going by the previews for the rest of the season it is going to follow the UK version pretty closely. Also the guy playing the vampire creeps me out and Uk Annie is way better.

I gotta say, I like the show. It's still a bit rough around the edges, but there's been a nice improvement with the last couple episodes, I especially like these Dutch vampires that live in the Amish country that were introduced, they're pretty creepy. Two things I hope they change for season 2, they get a better selection of songs to play on the show and they need to drop the opening narrations.

Ya know Netflix has the seasons of the original UK version..................

I don't have Netflix, so that's a no go for me. But I have been watching series 3 on BBC America on demand, it's pretty good but there are like no werewolf scenes, just beginnings and the aftermath.

Yeah thats a budget thing for them. Are there any werewold scenes in the american version? I stopped watching after epsiode 4.

Also why don't you have Netflix? Seems like you kind of have to with Blockbuster closing shop.

Yeah, episode 8 had the first full on werewolf shot and this past episode had werewolf cage fights. I kinda like the design they went with, but they regrettably went the CG route with it, but all things considered it doesn't look that bad. Though the cage fight was a bit wonky.

This one starts at 3:50 and this one at 5:30.

I don't have Netflix because I am broke and I have to live within my means. I'll get around to checking out the beginning of the UK series sometime soon.

Ohh thats weird. They are pulling form the UK series but in a super sped up way. Had to wait until season 3 for werewolf cage fights in the Uk version. And yeah those werewolf shots were pretty awful and you didn't really get to see the fight either. You will see alot of werewolf shots in season 2 and a little in season 3 and at least they are prostetic.

Also thats why I got Netflix because it was so cheap. I was tired of paying like 5 bucks a rental. Their 2 at a time plan is like 16, with blu-ray access 19.

I have to say that I'm really digging this show, the SyFy version.  I also watch the UK version, which I started on a year ago.  I watch both with no trouble after past the pilot for the American version.  I'm even beginning to enjoy the SyFy version better because of the way its fleshing out bits that the UK one sorta left behind.  Like Mitchell's lady friend from series one never seemed like enough was done with her and here she in the the American version still kicking around.  I like the werewolf's family is involved, particularly the sister.  The decisions and story telling, for me, just seem better done. Only thing UK does better is Mitchell, the actor, and the ghost is probably more "alive" over there, excuse the pun.  I mean, I know what's gonna happen on the SyFy version and I'm still jazzed about it.

I thought Dexter never came into its own until it left the original novels behind in favor for the show's writers.  I hope that is the case for this show as well.  Being Human on SyFy could end up being pretty great whereas I think the UK one, good as it is, has peaked already.

Anyone notice Jeremiah Chechik getting so much work on the SyFy version?  I'm happy about that.  I was always sad his career took such a dump after The Avengers.  He seemed better than that crap.  I love how cable shows are giving directors like that another life, another shot.  I keep seeing John Dahl directing episodes of my favorite shows.  I think I saw Nick Gomez's name somewhere not long ago.  this should be a thread on its own.

I've really been enjoying Being Human on ScyFy, as well.  Although, honestly, I'm predisposed to like any movie or show that features the holy triumvirate of a werewolf, vampire and ghost.  My only complaint is the fact that the show inevitably resorts to a music video at, approximately, the 9:45 p.m. mark, i.e. the point at which the characters are reaching maximum morose-ness for the episode.  It smacks of One Tree Hill or 90210 or The Hills or some other ridiculous teen drama.

I had asked in the BBC Being Human thread about how the two series compared and contrasted with one another, but didn't receive a response.  I did read an article where the writers/producers said that the first season of the ScyFy version would use the first season of the BBC version as a road map, but with plenty of side excursions and diversions.  Sort of a Walking Dead concept.  Is that accurate for you guys in the know?

Oh, and I haven't watched the Werewolf cage match episode yet, but I thought the initial werewolf CGI was pretty damn good for television.

Oh, and I'm glad to see that there are other Chewers besides me watching the show.  I was getting suspicious.

Thats pretty accurate. They borrow heavily from the first season and then some from the 3rd season as well with the werewolf cage match. Although don't worry you don't really see the actual fights in either, fucking tv budgets.... Anyway I do get how people could like the syfy version, especially if they haven't seen the original series. I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes and I had to cut out. Not because it was bad really but because it was too close to the original. Also the girl that plays the ghost can't touch the real Annie, thats just a fact. The biggest differences I saw in what I watched were the lesbian sister. After seeing all 3 seasons of the UK version it's hard for me to switch over tot he american one thats all. However if I find out the 2nd season completely veers off into it's own thing I could give it a second shot.

I don't why it took me this long to notice it, but it seems like they are going for a American Werewolf in London look for the werewolves. Though I'm not that big a fan of it being CG, its kinda cool nonetheless.

I've been watching and enjoying the US version.  I keep meaning to watch the UK one, but I haven't found the time.  My biggest problem with the US one is when Witwer sets his mode to ANGST.  He's at his best when he's playing a bit loose and funny (the stuff with the neighbour kid before everything went south is the strongest example), because there's a slight hint of him being a bit off, which makes him seem slightly dangerous, but when he goes morose, or tries to actually be dangerous, it comes off as trying too hard and I can't take him seriously.

Yeah UK vampire I think my have handled that better although I gotta say the werewolf in the US is pretty damn good. Seriously he could give UK werewolf George a run for his money. The bigggest problem the US version is going to have with the vampire is balancing his darkness. The UK version took him to some VERY dark places and then did something I thought I would never see in a series of this type. I can't say you will see that here which is a shame because it was an amazing arc.

I'm going to have to check out the BBC version because, so far, I've actually been impressed with how dark they've been willing to take Aidan.  I think they've done a really job of conveying that this is a character constantly on the edge, a character who occasionally can't stop himself from going over it.  The werewolf cage episode is a great example of this: grief stricken, he enters the vampire club and proceeds to demolish two women.  And even though I knew Josh would survive the episode, Aidan's behavior throughout gave it a heightened sense of danger.

Yeah, and I gotta say the werewolf cage episode has probably been the best ep of the series so far. It's those damn Dutch vampires, fuckers are pretty creepy. Also, I got a bit of chuckle and thought of Supernatural when Sally the ghost mentions how the vampires attacked her with an iron fireplace poker.

I almost like to think that ScyFy's Being Human and Supernatural exist in the same universe, although their werewolf and vampire designs/mythologies are markedly different.  This is especially hilarious in light of the fact that Dean's girlfriend and Lucifer are apparently running rampant on the streets of Boston in Being Human.

Season 2 needs to bring in Jim Beaver in some capacity.

Quite a few deaths I didn't see coming this episode, I was a bit surprised they cut away during the decapitations. Also, the pregnant woman getting thrown at Bishop was probably one of the best parts.

I am watching it again online

Just watched the season finale last night and I'm officially a fan.  They succeeded in setting up some intriguing storylines for next season.  Now if only they'd do away with at least one music montage per episode...

And hopefully ditch the opening narrations. So sad to see Mark Pellegrino go.
