Remember this Steve Martin film!

The whole sequence where he goes out to eat for the first time as a single guy is glorious.

Great recap, Josh.

I think your qualifiers are good reasons why this isn't a "classic" per se, but this is an absolutely hysterical movie. Especially so for twentysomethings navigating the dating scene. Glad it's still on Netflix Instant, every Steve Martin fan should rush to watch it now.

Better job, Josh!

I haven't seen this but Arthur Hiller means I'm there. The Out Of Towners is one of the all time great comedies.

Got this in a pack with THe Jerk and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. I miss that Steve Martin So Very, Very, Much.

I stumbled upon this late one night a few years ago. It was the first I'd heard of it, but more power to you for keeping this flick alive for those who haven't had the pleasure, Josh. Grodin's great as a mope, not once becoming truly irritating.

For some reason, the joke about Larry Bird has stayed with me to this day.

Success!

I would argue that pretty much all of Martin's movies between The Jerk and All of Me are both underrated and/or forgotten.   I really, really love The Man With Two Brains which I think is near-ZAZ great, and Pennies From Heaven is an interesting semi-misfire.
