I did not expect De Niro to be that much fun.

Something is OFF about Megan Fox's face tonight.  She looks a little gaunt.

GLEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Would rather have Community but this is a star fucker show.

Fincher came off as a really nice guy. Good for him.

I love what Devin said on Twitter: Robert De Niro accepting his award in character as Rupert Pupkin.

Fincher is intense, but at least he is trying to make great movies. Unlike Stallone.

Giamatti: "HI I EATED A LOT OF CHOKLITS HI"

...love the guy.

Was it just me or did Halle Berry not enjoy that shout out?

So no more Gervais?

Was just about to ask that.  Tom Cruise and ohn Travolta took him out.  Be great if he got fired mid show.

Was there a memo to refer to the Foreign Press as the HFPA?  I don't remember anyone ever calling them that before?

A Tim Allen dig. Gervais is my hero.

The Kids Are All Right but Still Mostly Overrated.

Red?  It was ok but I'd like to know what they gave them for the Nomination.

Love that Glee creator shouted out public school teachers, especially because DeNiro make a joke about being able to put his kids in private schools.

Halle Berry is hot.

I haven't seen Black Swan, but I love Natalie Portman. Her speech was really sweet. Love that she brought her parents.

Fincher's "popping propecia like chicklets" and "jon benet" lines sounded like deleted V.O. lines from Fight Club.

Colin Firth is class personified.

I had fun. Gervais won.

Gervais was great. Hope they bring him back next year. If not, Bring on Robert Downey Jr.

I actually had fun watching this year's Globes. Thank God for the Internet.

The awards are meaningless, but it was fun to watch them.

What did Bale say at the end of his speech, anyone know? It seemed like he was turning away, and then came back and the sound cut out, and then LL Cool J comes out, looks over in Bale's direction and goes "Wow." hmmmmmm

"Oh, and Robert De Niro who's sitting right there--"

That's when the music drowned him out.

Why did David Fincher refuse to take the stage when the movie he directed won Best Picture?

Yeah, that was weird. And when Scott Ruding thanked him, he looked painfully uncomfortable.  Man's a genius, but a fanciful figure of fun he is not.

I cannot help but feel so much admiration for Ricky Gervais and his joyful irreverence. He just does not care, and as Nick said, has absolutely nothing to lose. When the head of the HFPA weakly threatened Gervais to 'take his future movies elsewhere' for qualification, I could imagine Ricky just guffawing backstage.

It was surprising, funny, and scary all at once, seeing Hanks get livid after Carlos won over The Pacific. "This is bullshit!"

DeNiro has one mode outside of acting: Boring. I have no doubt the material he read off the teleprompter was written by an accomplish comedian - I'd like to think Gervais.

Loved seeing longtime character-acting slubs like Buscemi and Giamatti. I know the Globes are a fucking sham, but I'm happy those guys are getting recognition. Same with Melissa Leo and Jane Lynch.

I saw Damon's intro but missed De Niro's speech.  Holy shit.  It was like he was channeling Rupert Pupkin.

Best speech: Jane Lynch, with Melissa Leo and the kid from Glee runners up. Great bunch of gals. Giamatti was aces too.

Best award presentation: RDJ by a country mile. Fuckin' superb.

More Liver Punches Landed Than Mickey Ward Award: Ricky Gervais. Beautiful. Nevermind stinging like a bee, mofo was out there with a rocket powered harpoon. Deadset legend.

Greatest Thing About Living In The Future Award: DVR. Watching a seventeen hour ceremony in 25 minutes ... priceless.

Nick: Awesome commentary. Well done.

RDJ made the night, for me. His intro fucking killed, delivered with his usual effortless combination of snark and self-deprecation.

Gervais wasn't consistently funny, but he was consistently fearless. Loved that he simply didn't care, and went for the kill every time.

So, from what the internet tells me Gervais really Gervais'd this shindig. I didn't give enough of a shit to actually give up sleep in a work day for the Globes, but are they worth me checking the re-run?

Also, goddamn January Jones.

Gervais has balls of steel for going where he did, but pretty much all his jokes were easy layups. Funny, sure, but ripe for the picking. He's not so much a comic genius as he is a brave presenter.

I felt asleep after a long day and a airplane trip but the stuff I saw was really good. I'll wait for a re-run sans simultaneous translation which ruined most of the show.

HuffPo has the opening monologue YouTubed. Worth 7 minutes of your time. But much as I loved Gervais' merciless swacking of the low hanging fruit, RDJ's intro for best actress absolutely killed.

And, yes: January HAVE MY BABIES NOW Jones.

Just read through the super champion Nunz commentary. I even enjoy when he rips things I'm a fan of, like Tilda Swinton's visage. My only regret is that he can't commentate on everything all the time.

Robert Downey Junior penetrating James Spader.

Darren Aronofsky’s mustache giving Bradley Whitford cold sweats.

Deniro riding an adamantium stallion.

Hurricane Dolph.

A Danish woman's breasts squished together like a delightful dream.

A fuckdruid.

This is the enchanting world we live in.

Thank you! The Hurricane Dolph was my proudest moment of the night.

For those who didn't see Downey's presenting the Best Actress award - here ya go.

In what should come as no surprise, Gervais will not be back for hosting duties again.  Nor will he be able to enter any of his films for consideration.  Y'know.. I never really watched much of Ricky's material, didn't have much of an opinion on him one way or another.  After seeing some clips from last night though I think I'm gonna remedy that.

Am I supposed to feel bad for a bunch of rich, beautiful people who get their asses kisses every day, but had to endure a zinger or two from Ricky?   Cry me a river, already.

He's wildly inconsistent when it comes to his output, but if you haven't seen Extras, remedy that shit first.

Also, fuck the Hollywood Foreign Press. This is the most anyone's talked about their celebrity handjob contest in years.

Seconding the Extras love – a great, great series, and it’ll tell you exactly where Gervais was coming from with his Globes jokes. Like most people who find success later in life, he hasn’t been indoctrinated into the whole ‘celeb’ lifestyle and doesn’t take it seriously at all.

Golf clap to the HFPA and Hollywood community for reminding us what a bunch of self-important, humourless twats they are, though. So we’re supposed to ogle at them while they back-slap each other and flash their gowns, then feel bad for them when someone brings them down to the same level as everyone else?

Christ, even Robert Downey Jr. is getting all offended about it; I really thought he was cannier than that: http://ca.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idCATRE70G60G20110117

This shit, from the guy who brought us “Never go full retard”?

There seems to be some mixed messages. While I've read that Gervais wasn't going to be asked back, I also read that the HFPA was happy with the host.

Later on Monday, we received this official statement from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association: “We loved the show. It was a lot of fun and obviously has a lot of people talking. When you hire a comedian like Ricky Gervais, one expects in your face, sometimes outrageous material. Certainly, in this case, he pushed the envelope and occasionally went too far. The HFPA would never condone some of his personal remarks. Overall, however, the show was among the best we’ve ever had and we were pleased.”

I kinda thought the obviousness of the jokes was part of the shtick.  The verbal equivalent of spraying everyone with seltzer.  The better to highlight the ridiculousness of the proceedings.
